Bushies Come to Palin's Aid

Sept 02, 2008 - 5:35 PM

Michael Isikoff

The McCain team has hastily assembled a team of former Bush White House aides to tutor the vice-presidential candidate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, on foreign policy issues, to write her speeches and to begin preparing her for her all-important Oct. 2 debate against Sen. Joe Biden.

Steve Biegun, who once served as the No. 3 National Security Council official under Condoleezza Rice at the White House, has been hired as chief foreign-policy advisor to the Alaska governor, campaign officials told NEWSWEEK. After taking leave from his job as vice presdient for international affairs at Ford Motor Co. last Friday, Biegun flew to St. Paul and, together with McCain's foreign-policy guru Randy Schuenemann, began briefings for Palin on national Security issues - an area where her resume is conspicuously thin.

(Other Bushie tutors named in the article: Matt Scully, Mark Wallace, Nicole Wallace, Tucker Eskew, Douglas Holtz-Eakin.)

(later)

The proliferation of former Bush White House aides in the Palin team may strike some as ironic - and could even provide some fodder for Democrats - given the McCain camp's efforts to distance itself from the unpopular president.

Irony? There's more irony in the first sentence alone than you'd find in most used car lots.

12. Dan Quayle Vice President School is back in session
And coincidentally, this morning I heard a Republican spinner say, in his defense of Palin, that Dan Quayle was actually a really smart guy. He brought up the name himself!

6. Oh, I understand it now! McCain is trying to separate himself from Bush! See?
Oh, wait! If he is having his partner in crime "trained" by Bush aides, won't she come out thinking like Bush? THEN, he'd have to separate himself from Palin. Gee, this gets so complicated!

7. A bit of a waste to hire all these people for just a week,
but what the heck, I guess the McCain campaign has money to burn.

When he ditches Palin (sometime around Sunday), he'll pick Lieberman and he won't need all these teachers because while Lieberman is an arrogant asshole, he is, in fact, quite aware of foreign issues.

17. A crash course on foreign policy issues?
Edited on Tue Sep-02-08 10:50 PM by SurferBoy
Ummm... Wasn't she touted by GOP spin doctors as having a lot of foreign policy experience? You know, because her state is right next door to Russia and all that.

So, then, why the edumication on foreign policy issues?

With this, the GOP is pretty much admitting that she's a dolt when it comes to anything outside the 50 states, and mainly anything that doesn't pertain to Alaska.

Furthermore, the Bushies are the ones giving her the lessons? Isn't that like getting the Chinese Communist Party to teach about human rights?

No matter, even with her little flashcards and cheatsheets, along with that radio in her ear with Rove cooing his mysticisms, Biden will wipe the floor with her.

25. She's going to learn foreign policy nuance in a month?
Nah, she'll learn republic talking points and how to avoid answering yes or no questions, if she's smart enough. "What should we do about global warming?" answer: "We need to focus on domestic production and free ourselves from foreign oil."

I wonder if they will invite Joe Biden to be fair about spending the taxpayer's cash?

I guess Cheney will be teaching most of the classes?

Propaganda and Intimidation 101? Professor Dick Cheney

Smirking, drinking, dictation and delusions of grandeur 101? Professor Shrub.

How to piss everybody off on the entire planet 101? Dokkktor Rice?

Mean Spirited and Ugly 101? Up for Babs....errr...grabs?

Edit for I had to go :puke:

tutor her and prep for debate...

mmmmmm....in otherwords, memorize the talking points

while this is one debate I have no intention of missing, I am concerned about softball questions, and/or Biden taking it easy on her to avoid being accused of being a bully

31. Look for her to start talking in three and four word phrases, instead of sentences.
Until they learned to write in *'s style of random phrases, he butchered the speeches written for him. After years of churning out shit for * to say, they are going to find it difficult to go back to normal speech. The one thing she does have skill at, from what I have heard, is public speaking.

I would like to see the debate conducted from inside a faraday cage, to prevent her from being coached wirelessly. I suspect that she will develop hearing problems between now and the the debate, doubtlessly from endless use of firearms. The initial cover will be her hair, but when someone gets a clear picture of the earpiece, her tragic loss of hearing, and her courage to overcome the problem, will be explained away as too much gunpowder and not enough ear protection.
