Palin mocks Obama; McCain claims nomination
Source: AP

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin claimed her historic spot on the Republican ticket Wednesday night, uncorking a smiling, sarcastic attack on Barack Obama and winning cheers of acceptance and approval after a tumult-filled first week on the national stage.

.....

The 44-year-old Palin, scarcely known a week ago, had top billing on the third night of the convention. The first woman vice presidential candidate in party history, she spoke to uncounted millions of viewers at home in her solo national debut after days of tabloid-like scrutiny of her and her family.
Some of the biggest roars were for her barbs aimed at Democratic presidential nominee Obama.
"Victory in Iraq is finally in sight; he wants to forfeit," she said of Obama. "Al-Qaida terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America; he's worried that someone won't read them their rights."

.....

Not surprisingly, her best-received lines were barbs at Obama.
"I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a `community organizer,' except that you have actual responsibilities," she said, a reference to Obama's stint as a community organizer.
"I might add that in small towns we don't quite know what to make of a candidate who lavishes praise on working people when they are listening and then talks about how bitterly they cling to their religion and guns when those people aren't," she said.

.....

"In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers," she said in another cutting reference to Obama's campaign theme. "And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change."

1. Speaking of "small towns", Sarah; how's that $20 million debt you left yours?
Edited on Wed Sep-03-08 11:52 PM by LynnTheDem
And just where exactly did the $27 million you earmarked disappear to?

And by the way, what makes you different from the Taliban, since you both share the same beliefs?

And how are you "pro life" and "pro death" at the same time?

And how is telling lies a "Christian" or "Godly" thing to do?

And if your daughter CHOSE to have her illegitimate baby, doesn't that make her PRO CHOICE?

And one final question; why are theocratic rightwingnuts such as yourself so deeply fucking stupid hypocrites?

3. The irony

The irony was that the jabs she took at Obama for not having "executive" experience applied equally to John McCain.

7. Thank you. Earlier I was trying to come up with a word that
decribes s.p.'s remarks and I came up with immature. You are the only one I've seen so far to use it. It's a good word....not sexist or cute like snarky.

9. More hateful Palin rhetoric
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 10:02 AM by seafan
Palin attacked Obama for his experience as a community organizer in Chicago during her acceptance speech. She boasted that instead, she'd been mayor. She also belittled the stage-set-up for Obama acceptance speech at Invesco Field in Denver last week. The stage had been set up with white columns.

It was Palin's sense of timing, and her dead-pan delivery that made the comments shocking as much as they were powerful in undermining the grandeur and sense of history of that moment.

"But when the cloud of rhetoric has passed ... when the roar of the crowd fades away ... when the stadium lights go out, and those Styrofoam Greek columns are hauled back to some studio lot - what exactly is our opponent's plan?" she asked. "The answer is to make government bigger ... take more of your money ... give you more orders from Washington ... and to reduce the strength of America in a dangerous world...."

And she addressed NONE of the serious issues facing America. It was only about FEAR, LIES and SLANDER.

People, let us prepare ourselves. This malignant, fascist, fundamentalist mentality we saw last night will not go quietly.

And we can count on a severely curtailed media access to Palin, because she will be sequestered and prepped with sound bytes to cover for her lack of knowledge of foreign affairs, the occupation of Iraq, Cheney's threats against Iran and Russia, the economy, scientific advancement, the health care failure, the catastrophic dynamics of job outsourcing and the abysmal failure of public education.

Underlying all of this is a rabid, fundamentalist view of religion, with Palin's words: the Iraq war is 'a task that is from God'.

And couching it all will be accusations of "sexism" aimed at anyone who dares question her views.

This is the ugly reality of the battle we face: the fight against extremist fundamentalism, and in this case, it is Christian fundamentalism. It has seized control of our government and our discourse.

It will destroy our nation if we do not stop it.

10. Four lies Palin told

1. She didn't support the bridge to nowhere.

2. She's against earmarks. $27 million when mayor, hundreds of millions when governor.

3. Son Track is deploying on September 11. Votevets.org asked and found out he's not.

4. Gas pipeline. The pipeline construction hasn't started as she claimed.

I'm sure there's more, but those were the most glaring.

11. hey, hocker-mom....
....a question....

....I don't know the circumstances and I certainly don't know Alaska law, but when someone 17 years old gets knock-up by someone over 17, isn't someone supposed to get arrested?
