AP, Which Threw Cold Water on Obama Address, Calls Palin Speech 'Star-Turning'
Source: Editor & Publisher

An Associated Press analysis of Barack Obama's widely praised (across the political spectrum) speech last Thursday drew much criticism from liberals and media critics last week for its dour tone. Would the AP offer the same kind of muted response to Sarah Palin's big address on Wednesday night?

Not exactly. The article by Tom Raum and Liz Sidoti opened: "Sarah Palin delivered. An embattled vice presidential candidate, a novice on the national stage, the head of a family suffering its 'ups and downs,' the first-term Alaska governor rocked the GOP convention with a star-turning performance."

The AP had hit Obama for not providing enough specific in his speech. The AP account of the Palin speech mentioned no specifics--but did not fault her for that at all.

6. Make Up Your Mind, AP
Ok the AP really needs to make up its mind. Either critize both parties for each of their faults or do not do it at all. Bottom line, fuck the AP.

8. Water carriers for the GOP. Their review was written before Palin ever gave her speech
The AP has become shameless in their biased coverage, praising one for what they condemn in the other. Shameless.

12. Is it OUR fault that most of the MSM lies about Democrats and our party?
How in the hell can we stop this propaganda machine?
What in the hell can we do to get the truth out there?
Not enough people read these forums or blogs to get to hear the truth about what we face in this nation today.

The neocons in this country are in control.
Bush just smiles and says "everything is all right".
McCain's surrogates running around saying this country is strong and in a good financial position.
Kudlow is claiming that there are signs that our economy is turning around.

They have used the MSM to spread their propaganda so much that a lot of people don't know what to believe anymore.

Obama needs to let a 527 group go after McCain.
Because McCain's negative ads, attacking Obama, coupled with the MSM spin machine lying their ass off 24 hours a day will be too much for Obama to overcome.

This country can not afford another 4 years of Bush's policies.
They've already broke the bank.
7000 house foreclosures a day now!!
$2 Trillion Dollars wasted on the Iraq War.

Wave the flag - John McCain is a POW.

21. More people on the south side ...

Just remember, there are double the number of people in the south side of Chicago as there are in the entire state of Alaska. Also remember, that if their thesis is that Obama has little executive experience, they're also attacking McCain who hasn't even been a community organizer.

I think the Obama campaign is going to have to respond to this. AND ... since they are getting specific about Sarah Palin's "accomplishments" (unlike McCain) I think Obama needs to start talking about his experience in terms of accomplishments.

22. What makes this fawning AP review most chuckle-worthy is another post from the AP ...
... also reviewing the speech, but from a fact-checking basis:

(AP) Attacks, Praise Stretch Truth At GOP Convention

    Associated Press Writer Jim Drinkard

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her Republican supporters held back little Wednesday as they issued dismissive attacks on Barack Obama and flattering praise on her credentials to be vice president. In some cases, the reproach and the praise stretched the truth.

    Some examples:

PALIN: "I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending ... and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress 'thanks but no thanks' for that Bridge to Nowhere."

THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a "bridge to nowhere."

... etc (see link above for more) ...

So, Palin's already thin resume is largely padded with exaggerations and outright falsehoods, and her attacks are mostly distortions and lies, delivered with a sarcastic sneer.

Not the change we need. (Hell, not even demonstrating the basic honesty to be hired as a fast food clerk.)

24. Article does do a great job exposing talking points.
"A star is born," said Chris Wallace on Fox.

"A star is born," Blitzer said.

"A star is born," said Anderson Cooper on CNN.

Boy, the MSM sure does scare easily - McCain throws a hissy fit and cuts off one interview request with CNN, and everyone snaps to.

AP is endorsing Palin and John Sidney McCain III. They can add that to CNN's endorsement.
