WP: Rising Anti-Bush* Sentiment Driving Democrats to Polls
Wednesday, February 4, 2004; Page A01

The Democratic presidential contest went national yesterday, and what was true in Iowa and New Hampshire proved true coast to coast: Voters in these elections are deeply dissatisfied with President Bush, and defeating him in November is their prime issue, according to exit polls.

The belief that he can beat Bush continued to be Massachusetts Sen. John F. Kerry's greatest attribute with the Democratic electorate, the polls suggested. Even in South Carolina, where Sen. John Edwards (N.C.) handed Kerry his first defeat in this nomination fight, Kerry led 2 to 1 among voters who rated electability as the quality they cared most about in a candidate.

That advantage translates among Democrats all over the country, according to yesterday's exit polls. For the first time, southern, western and big-city voters were heard from; African American voters -- a key Democratic constituency -- voted in large numbers for the first time, as did Hispanics. Turnout was a record high for a Democratic primary in South Carolina and was twice the 2000 number in Arizona. Anti-Bush feeling varied a bit from place to place -- higher in Delaware, a little lower in South Carolina and the classic swing state of Missouri. But there was consistent dissatisfaction among primary voters on the economy, the war and Bush's performance.

(snip)

"There was a huge spike for Democrats in the last month," he added, referring to the opinion of the party's candidates expressed in various polls. "Part of that was Bush's lousy State of the Union, but it's also the race has made a very positive impression."

32. Bush has caused so much needless death.
Any thinking person with a conscience should be outraged with this evil corporate cabal. I am happy to see the American people respond. We must punish the leaders of this cabal, not just throw them in the street!

The print media less so.

Those of us without tons of money only get "heard" when we vote, and now that we have this chance to voice our concerns, we are "roaring"! We are Democrats! Hear us roar!

and they have heard us. Well, let me speak for myself....I have been roaring for three years. I have written more letter to congress, made more phone calls and attended more marches than I ever thought I would.

Some of us may not have the money, but we are being heard.

I have not been this active since 1968-69. Many of my neighbors and peers are doing the same.

Yes, we are roaring...however, I hope the Dems in Congress are listening. They need to start doing some roaring of their own, instead of just rolling over!

31. Did anyone see David Gergen re: Kerry-over-Bush poll?
I can't remember what right-wing cable channel it was. (MSNBC?)Anyway, the first poll, he just shook his head and muttered something to the effect that it was basically an aberration. Then, later, a couple more came out, and he couldn't quite explain them away. He looked like he was being forced to swallow rat droppings.

7. Unebelievable Lockheed-Martin ads I get from this WP page
Get a load of the sickening Lockheed Martin ads that accompany this page at the WashPost when you read this ad. I've gotten three different ones so far, and they animate so fast that I haven't been able to log them here. But, yuck, they're making me sick with all their "Citizen:" and "homeland security" and "information sharing" crap.

And the tagline: "Lockheed Martin: We never forget who we're working for." And we here all know who that really is, don't we.

I posted it on the wall near my computer right after LOTR-I came out. My only antidote to being scared shitless by the Bush regime is to stay active and stay out there -- that's what I've decided to do with the time that's given to me, and I remain grateful that so many others are too.

1. That the rightous anger we all feel, at least I think all of us feel anyway, is finaly being recognized.

2. Bush/Cheney sitting in their spider holes sh*tting their drawers.

By the people, and for the People. Forget that brother, and you are out on your a$$.

Couldn't happen to better people IMO.

One poster said that he carries with him a stack of voter registration cards that are already stamped. Talk to people who you know or suspect don't vote. Telling people that this is important will help motivate them.

19. Need to fight harder than ever now.
Bush has not even begun to spend his 100 - 200 million against us yet. Our Kerry, WMD, etc. bump has gone virtually unopposed. Rove plans to launch his attack earlier now, starting with the Chimp on 'Meet the Press' this Sunday. If only 10 million of us Dem's donated only $25 each to our eventual nominee, that = 250 million! About the same amount of money the Chimp will spend to plaster against us. I think a massive small donor drive is in order.

21. Absolutely Correct!!!
(I've started trying to remember to say "Correct" instead of "Right" lately. LOL )

There's gazillions of dollars in that war chest. I really hope someone is thinking ahead to the general election too. It wouldn't surprise me if the GOP and typical GOP supporters find ways to keep regular working people from being able to make time to go vote. Then again...they'ld have to actually create some jobs for that to happen.

23. the lap dogs have been missing the boat on this
recently the various talking heads and lapdogs have been focusing on the 'kick bush out' trend

they talk like it's just a 'new' developement, something that has emerged in the past couple of weeks

IMHO - they missed the boat by a couple of years. 'kick bush* out' has been rumbling and festering for quite awhile. Dean gained prominence in the Democratic races because he gave a face to it, he validated what people have been feeling all along. But the lapdogs and talking heads charactized it as something Dean created.

If Dean 'created' the anger then it would seem that this anger would diminish as Dean's campain wanes -- but it hasn't -- and with each primary/caucus results and exit polling the talkingheads are amazed at the level of voter anger at bush* -- and these stories just further validate the anger people are feeling, it shows the people that they are not alone in their anger and frustration.

When I've shot my mouth off about bush* to various people, a look of relief has come over their faces when they realize that they are not alone, they are not looney-tunes or wingnuts in their anger at bush*

let the opposition be united. The extreme right has been marching together like robots for the last ten years. While we are too intelligent for that, it wouldn't hurt for us to finally all put our minor differences aside to achieve this VERY important goal. Nothing else will matter if we can't kick this cabal out of ALL branches of government this November!

He provided the backbone that has been missing from the Democrats. He will not be President but he deserves a tremendous applause for his rallying of the Democratic Base. If it weren't for Dean we would have nothing but Republican-lite. He showed that Democracy matters. He is a Hero. IMHO On a side note I wouldn't have voted for him but truley respect and admire him as a man and a leader
