Support for War in Iraq Drops
PRINCETON, NJ -- A new CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll finds Americans' support for the war in Iraq has retreated from the higher levels coincident with the capture of Saddam Hussein last December, and is essentially back where it was last fall. Today, Americans are evenly divided on whether it was worth going to war at all, and more people disapprove than approve of the way President George W. Bush is handling the situation in Iraq. A month ago, solid majorities said the war was worth it, and approved of Bush's handling of that issue.

The poll, conducted Jan. 29-Feb. 1, finds 49% of Americans saying the war was worth it, and 49% saying it was not.

The current low rating is virtually the same as that measured by Gallup Sept. 19-21, when Americans said the war was worth it by 50% to 48%. It follows weeks of Democratic criticisms about the handling of the war in Iraq, as well as a recent report by former top U.S. weapons inspector David Kay, saying he found no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and that U.S. intelligence got it wrong. "It turns out we were all wrong, probably, in my judgment, and that is most disturbing," Kay said.

In mid-December, after the capture of Hussein, 65% of Americans said it had been worth going to war.

The public's approval of the way Bush is handling the situation in Iraq has also declined in the wake of the Kay report and Democratic criticisms. Just 46% approve, while 53% disapprove, of Bush on this matter, similar to the rating he received last fall. His approval rating jumped after the capture of Hussein, but that rally effect has now disappeared.

3. Some fresh diversion is probably percolating in the WH kitchen
There has been lots about OBL and Pakistan in the news lately, but also a fair bit about North Korea. My money is on something to do with Pakistan and/or OBL. Or maybe a fresh LIHOP, to bring people back to heel. I doubt if it will work, though. People seem to be getting tired of it all.

4. Who ARE these people?
"The publics approval of the way Bush is handling the situation in Iraq has also declined in the wake of the Kay report and Democratic criticisms. Just 46% approve, while 53% disapprove, of Bush on this matter, similar to the rating he received last fall. His approval rating jumped after the capture of Hussein, but that rally effect has now disappeared."

There are still 46% of Americans that think this boondoggle was WORTH IT! Are these people brain dead, do they live in a freaking vacuum? No one will ever go broke betting on the stupidity of Americans.

6. It would be nice if that 46% is exclusively among
the app 50% who don't vote. Seems like a natural match.

or the military families ...
we are all blacked out. Like we dont exist.
Seems that no news media gives a shit about any of us, or our kids.
We are on our own out here , and the dead and wounded are ignored.
The blood is on the hands of the whore media too.

7. We are back to the 50/50 country I guess.
It does seem to be that the Republican can not seem to run things. Iraq is one big mess and we are getting there. So much for running govt. like a business, which I always thought crazy in the first place. Business is run top down and countries should be run bottom up.

8. How bad must it REALLY be for bu$h?
EVERY damn poll, except Zogby, has been cooked since before Day One of the Regime. Said polls have been as deliberately pro-bu$h as all the TV "news" coverage, IMO. You'll notice that most of the major polling services have partnered with a TV net and a print publication over the last few years, BTW. This is not a coincidence!

CNN and USA Today have spent almost four years telling us what a swell guy the pResident is. It follows that their Gallup Poll hookup would have to go along with that philosophy or those two "news" outfits would suffer from the disconnect.

The level of disgust/hatred/revulsion for bu$h must be at alarming levels for blatantly pro-bu$h outfits to be (under)reporting numbers like this!

Exxxxxxxxxxxcellent!
