McCain campaign plans new Palin rollout: Will speak at son's Army deployment on 9/11
Source: Politico

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will speak at her son’s Army deployment ceremony on 9/11 and spend two days with ABC News crews later this week as part of a McCain campaign plan to increase Americans’ comfort with her as a leader.

Campaign and network officials had said on Sunday that her first television interview would be a sit-down with Charles Gibson of ABC’s “World News.”

But it turns out that she is spending much of Thursday and Friday with Gibson — at the ceremony in Fairbanks, Alaska, and at her home in Wasilla, Alaska.

Campaign aides said the anchorman will get extensive, repeated access to Palin throughout her first trip home since becoming the nominee....

20. Don't know where that rumor started, but it sure would be good to research and find out.
That option was frequently used years ago - reform school or the army. Once we got deeply into the Vietnam War, judges were reluctant to use it.

I certainly would like to know if it's true.

Edited on Tue Sep-09-08 11:58 AM by Divernan
First of all, google "Track Palin" and "school bus", and you'll get pages of hits, such as the following:

From December, 2005:

Four high school students were arrested Monday on charges stemming from vandalism last week that disabled a school bus fleet, closing core-area schools for a day in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District, according to the Alaska State Troopers. Three boys -- a 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds -- were taken to the Mat-Su Youth Facility after their 10:30 a.m. arrests at their homes. The fourth, Deryck Harris, 18, was arrested at 2:51 p.m. at home and jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility.
*************************

These stories all refer back to this incident in late 2005.

Second, we also know that Track spent his senior year of high school in Michigan, coming back in time to officially graduate with his Wasilla class. What teenager voluntarily goes to a different state and high school for his senior year? However, that was back in 2006/2007. My question is what has he done lately that he's only now being forced to enlist.

I had also read that his father forced him into the military because Track's under 2.0 high school QPA meant he could not get into University of Alaska and play collegiate hockey. Sounds like the young man got extremely poor parenting from both his mother and father - busy as they were with their personal ambitions. And she wasn't even governor then. You don't get a less than 2.0 QPA by having one bad semester. That kid consistently failed his way all through high school, and it is likely there is more than the school bus vandalism in his sealed juvenile records.

14. Maybe somebody will use the occasion to explore the facts behind his enlistment
The story I heard was that he had committed some fairly serious crime and had been given the choice by a judge between prison and the military.

She shouldn't be allowed to capitalize on her son's criminal acts.

But you know our intrepid 'journalists' will be there lapping it all up and putting their most patriotic sappy spin on it.

I read somewhere on DU a few days ago that the son had been charged with an offence relating to tampering with the brakes on a school bus and was given the option of joining the military in lieu of doing time. What happened with that story or was it just a rumour? Anyone know?

First, they're politicizing the war
Second, they're giving Palin's son "special treatment"
Third, they're exploiting Palin's FAMILY!!!

Biden's son has ALREADY done one tour of duty in the middle east, and is just about ready to leave for his second tour. How many Americans know about this? VERY FEW. We don't wear our military service on our sleeves, we just go off and do our duty.

They are blatantly pandering to the military vote, and doing it shamelessly.

Oh, did I mention, John McCain was a POW?

Can we expect similar theatrics and coverage of Senator Biden when his son deploys?? Probably not because (a) Senator Biden is a Democrat and thus cannot profess to be patriotic and, oh yea, (b) Senator Biden is much too classy a guy for such piddling displays and pandering.

46. And having the "interview" on her home turf by Charlie Gibson,
one member of the Gibson-Stephenopolous "Barak-Attack" team during the Democratic primary debates. I'm sure at least one of the "interviews" will take place inside her home, or while walking about her property. ABC, the network that brought you "The Path to 9-11", presents the "Sarah Palin Show," with special guest Charlie Gibson.

Oy vey...I say this as a seasoned public-relations professional with 12 years experience working
with many Fortune 500 companies and every major media outlet in this country.

The Republicans are evil geniuses.

This will work. It will work big time.

The Republicans win the war debate--only when people forget about the failed mission, the illegality of the
war and the lies that were told to get us there in the first place. The hundreds of thousands of
innocent Iraqis that have been murdered and our dead and seriously injured soldiers must be overshadowed
by PR stunts--in order to take control of the messaging.

During this Palin-deployment-good-bye stunt, the failed neocon policies will be invisible. Taking center stage,
will be the most shameless (but effective) attempts to personalize the war and make the war about Sarah
Palin and her awesome family.

In effect, this war will cease to be about George Bush. It will now be about Sarah Palin, her son, being
patriotic and supporting military families as our newfound American duty.

A mother will say good-bye to her son in front of the tv cameras. Sarah Palin will stand in front
of the troops, and talk about how awe-inspiring they are and how the surge has worked, because
of their efforts. She will talk about how we're winning in Iraq and how if we had listened to the
Democrats, we'd be in a world of hurt--and we would dishonor our soldiers who have died fighting--as
well as the soldiers standing behind her, including her son.

They'll use these soldiers to make the war about America's families and these soldiers.

They'll stage a tearful goodbye between Palin and her son. America will weep.

One of the basic tenants and challenges of PR is getting people to care about issues--like war--that are abstract
and seem far removed. To bring issues down to eye level--you need to give the issue a personality or a moving
story. Then people get it.

Tell people that millions of children go hungry at night--and they might feel bad for a few seconds. But, show them
video of a woman who stood in line with a dead baby slung on her shoulder, to rice an extra rice ration for
her other children--and people are profoundly impacted with intense emotion. They get it when it's
one person and one story.

Palin will cry. Her son will cry. Her entire family will cry. The McCain's will cry. The families will
be shown hugging and comforting one another--and pretty soon this election will be about Sarah Palin's
awesome family, their family values and what a good patriot she is.

Never mind that this is all a facade. Never mind that John McCain's priority is prolonged war and
increased violence. Never mind that McCain has admitted that he knows nothing about economic
issues.

God help us. Seriously...

Of course, if they can convince us that we are that stupid perhaps they'll be able to use it to cover another stolen election.

The torture that was deployed against McCain emerges in all the various accounts. It involved sleep deprivation, the withholding of medical treatment, stress positions, long-time standing, and beating. Sound familiar?

According to the Bush administration's definition of torture, McCain was therefore not tortured.
