Union Chief: ‘Jesus Was a Community Organizer’
Source: ABC News

In Lebanon, Virginia, right now United Mine Workers of America President Cecil Roberts is giving a characteristically enthusiastic introduction for Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., in this southwest Virginia burg.

He said Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., was more "Tonto" than "Maverick," and in a riff on community organizers -- defending them from attacks from Republicans seeking to belittle Obama's first job -- he said that he, Martin Luther King, Jr., and other notables were all community organizers.

"Jesus was a community organizer," Roberts said.

4. Let's use it! It is the perfect rebuttal!
...and let's also go with:

McCain is not a "maverick"...... he is a "loose cannon" (Just like Bush, only twice as explosive!)

10. It's a hideous rebuttal
When Republicans are making gains by claiming Obama has a Messiah complex, we don't want to go comparing him to Jesus Christ.

It's also way too easy to turn right around - the organized crowd was the one calling for Jesus' death, and Pilate simply voted 'present.'

No, put a lid on that line. Quick.

R. Garrett

12. Uh, could we STOP inserting MORE religion into politics? Please?
Secularism is the only thing that allows diverse societies to thrive.

11. "Tonto" or "Maverick"...either one is an apt description
"Tonto" was the Lone Ranger's faithful and trusty Indian sidekick, and it is a Spanish word for "fool". And "Maverick", from James Garner's Brett Maverick character from his old '50s "Maverick" TV series, was a loveable, womanizing, con-artist and gambler.

Come to think of it, either name is an apt description of John McCain: George Bush's foolish yet faithful and trusty sidekick...or....a womanizing gambler trying to con the American people.

14. There is a debate on the word "Tonto", in Potawatomi is means Faithful Friend.
And the original Radio version of the Lone Ranger was made by people familiar with the Potawatomi NOT the Indians of Arizona (The Tribe was from Michigan and the original Radio Show was made in Michigan).

For more see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonto
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lone_Ranger
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=18073741

Spanish using the same word for Fool seems not to have play any part in the selection of the name Furthermore for a show that made an effort NOT to be racist (And I am talking about the Radio Show of the 1930s as while as the TV series of the 1950s) it is hard to see the writers picking a name for an Indian that was derogatory. The show had a policy, no NON white bad guys, i.e. No Indians, no Blacks, no Mexican or Chinese bad guys, just White Bad guys. Sometime a white would pass himself off as a Mexican (And that would come out in the show) or trick a Mexican or Indian (Again would come out in the show) but the real bad guy in any show was always a White man (Please note, in the 30 minute TV shows that was hard to do, but in the earlier radio shows, with cliff-hanging endings, one going for 64 episodes, you can have complicated story lines).
