Drug tests nab 17 soldiers bound for Kabul - Canada

Drugs tests at a Quebec military base have nabbed 17 soldiers who would otherwise have been on their way to Afghanistan within weeks.

The soldiers — members of the 3rd Battalion of the Royal 22nd Regiment, the celebrated ‘Vandoos' — were among 19 troopers who tested positive for drugs, the exact nature of which has not been identified.

The Vandoos are on their way to Afghanistan to replace members of the 3rd Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment, who have been deployed to central Asia for six months. The RCR troopers — currently acting as the backbone of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force in Kabul — lost three compatriots during the mission, two killed when their jeep hit a mine and a third when a suicide bomber attacked his patrol.

If I can ever get into a Town Hall Meeting, my question is going to be, 'Why aren't politicians drug tested? In fact they are the highest authority in the world but yet we drug test bus drivers, students, workers...'
