Obama Implies McCain Puts Other Countries First (Now we're playing in the big leagues)
Source: ABC News

A pretty scathing charge from Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., this morning as he spoke to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers an assailed Sen. John McCain's position on free trade.

"Just ask the Machinists in Pennsylvania who build Harley-Davidsons," Obama said of McCain's record. "Because John McCain didn’t just oppose the requirement that the government buy American-made motorcycles, he called Buy American provisions 'disgraceful.' Just ask the workers across this country who have seen their jobs outsourced. The very companies that shipped their jobs overseas have been rewarded with billions of dollars in tax breaks that John McCain supports and plans to continue.

"So when American workers hear John McCain talking about putting 'Country First,'" Obama said, "it’s fair to ask – which country?"

When the inevitable outrage erupts from the McCain campaign, I hope Obama stands by his words.

I'm 66 and am waiting to catch up with my moniker. I'm still trying to figure out how anyone could believe that cave men and dinosaurs were here together, and all of this 4000 years ago. Thats why I( keep a 3million year old chambered nautilus fossil in my garden, to show to any of these silly people when they make that claim.

25. This is text on a blog. Needs to be said by Obama or DEM pundits on TV.
Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 05:49 PM by Dr Fate
Great talking points- needs to be repeated over and over by DEMS who go on those TV shows, and not just blogs.

I hope that the McCain camp sees this blog and then responds to it.

McCain would be more certain to take the bait if this was a talking point repeated by DEM pundits & surrogates on the TV shows.

Hopefully ABC will play the speech on the air- or if not, DEMS should go on cable shows & repeat the talking point themselves. Hope they do.

57. This is part of the problem
when you guys implore him to fight harder.

Obama's lines do not get retold by the media for purposes of helping Obama. That's not the rules of the game we're playing or the war we're fighting.

That is why if we want him to be tough we have to have his back...meaning distributing it everywhere and defending it OURSELVES.

The media is SOMETIMES forced to talk about things that are discussed widely on the blogs.

However, you have to be prepared that IF they do repeat it, it will probably be with a spin AGAINST Obama.

This spring, during the height of campaign season, he tripped down to Colombia and Mexico to tell them to gear up manufacturing capability for a McCain presidency.

Is that too hard to figure out for the average American? Does he have to wear a shirt that says: "Vote your job away".

...the "Country First" signs at the convention. I asked myself, what country do they mean? Surely, NOT the US, because he is for shipping jobs overseas, and boosting the Chinese economy with all the loans we have made for our war/occupation. Not to mention, that the Chinese ran the prisoner camps in N.Viet Nam, when he was captured... Seriously I often ask myself if McCain isn't the REAL Manchurian Candidate.

65. Good For Obama
Thankfully, we finally have another candidate who won't get pushed around (*cough* Kerry *cough* Mondale *cough* Dukakis).

70. He is right, but Republican's won't get it.
Do you expect Republican voters to read the snippet with all those words in it?

I totally get it but you need to consider the illiterate, either functionally or metaphorically, they just won't understand.

Nice try though.

78. It's not the republicans we have to convince
Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 10:46 PM by Captiosus
It's the undecideds and independents.

Repubs like those over at Freeper are going to vote McCain no matter what. There's no point trying to convert them. The race now lies in the hands of the people who haven't yet decided. We, meaning all of us, not just the Obama campaign, need to keep telling the world that McCain is a professional flip-flopper.

We need to be repeating these truths from now until 4 November:
McCain is NOT a maverick: He ran to the party line in 04 to regain GOP support and openly voted with Bush 95% of the time.
McCain is NOT an independent thinker: He picked a VP solely to cater to the republican base.
McCain is a POW, but has turned his back on Veterans: He has regularly voted against increasing veterans' benefits.
McCain is NOT against Lobbyists: He stacked his campaign staff with some of the most powerful lobbyists in Washington.
McCain is NOT trying to take a stand on the issues: His stand on the issues are identical to Bush's, and because he knows he cannot provide any real answers to issues affecting your families he's trying to run a social smear campaign.

If we keep repeating these points, over and over, we can sway the critical independents and undecideds. Let the republican base vote for their candidate and sulk when they lose.

You'll notice I didn't mention Palin at all, other than to frame her selection as being because McCain wanted to appeal to the base, because I think Palin is one great big distraction that takes time off of the overall message. If undecideds bring up Palin, I believe there's more than enough information on this, and other, forums and news sites that we could make a case against her if pressed to.

91. Yes, Palin needs to be ignored because she's pointless and
the MSM isn't going to do anything about her many blatant "issues". We need to be clear that they're both VERY dishonest with video (ads) - Daily Show style.

76. Ask And You Shall Receive
But this no more calls into question McCain's patriotism than many of McCain's own charges against Obama. McCain claimed he was questioning Obama'a judgment. Well, Obama is questioning McCain's judgment. McCain is the one who turned up the heat. Now let's see how well he handles it.

84. We are toast
Look. Get used to it. They have got us. Obama is toast against the monolithic Religious Right. It won't be long now. Our voices will never be heard from when they take over. They already have. Just listen to Hannity and Limbaugh. It is so over. All you people are wasting your time. This whole enterprise of left wing blogging is pathetic because there is no way to go against these bastards. The future of our country sucks because they will be in control. Get used to it.

85. I'm confident that Obama will stand by his words
Obama is not impulsive. I'd bet money that he and his team have talked through every possible scenario of how the gop will whine and cry like babies over this blow (I can imagine a McBoxer now with a deep gash over his eye) and team Obama knows exactly how they are going control this match.

Pappa's got a brand new bag. :)

I think you are lost. Your mouse must be broken cause you clicked on the wrong link. Go back to the Free Republic.

I know it is very lonely over there at FR, what with their numbers dwindling every day. But you really are better suited for that troll infested bulletin board then here because DU does require some actual thought.

Go back to your land of dictators, rubes and liars.

101. Every other country!!!!!
McCain would gladly sacrifice this country in a 100 year occupation of Iraq, at billions per week.

McCain would gladly sacrifice this country in a quixotic war with Iran, which doesn't have nuclear weapons, but which could raise absolute holy hell with the shipment of 40% of the worlds oil.

McCain would gladly sacrifice this country in a suicidal war with Russia over Georgia... and not even _that_ Georgia, the one we never heard of until last month.

McCain would gladly sacrifice this country for _any_ other country in the world, so long as he gets a war out of it.

108. GOOD FOR OBAMA
GOOD FOR OBAMA! He made this same point also when McCain was at the Harley fest in Sturgis--you know the festival where he suggested that his wife participate in the topless mud-wrestling contest? LOL. At that event McCain was bragging that Obama might have 200,000 people in Germany but that he would rather hear the roar of 2,000 Harleys .

Good for Obama for repeating the message. Maybe it he repeats it enough times it will soak in. Oh lord, sometimes it is honestly embarrassing to be an American.
