Energetically Wrong(Palin % Domestic Energy Alaska Supplies)
Edited on Sat Sep-13-08 12:02 AM by RamboLiberal
Source: Newsweek

Palin claims Alaska "produces nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of energy." That's not true.

Alaska did produce 14 percent of all the oil from U.S. wells last year, but that's a far cry from all the "energy" produced in the U.S.

Alaska's share of domestic energy production was 3.5 percent, according to the official figures kept by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

And if by "supply" Palin meant all the energy consumed in the U.S., and not just produced here, then Alaska's production accounted for only 2.4 percent.

-----

Furthermore, Palin said "energy," not "oil," so she was actually much further off the mark. According to EIA, Alaska actually produced 2,417.1 trillion BTUs of energy in 2005, the last year for which full state numbers are available. That's equal to just 3.5 percent of the country's domestic energy production.

Article points out that McCain is also repeating this falsehood - as recently as Thursday!

And her foreign policy expertise is energy!

1. What objective analysis is there on Pallin's supposed expertise in energy?
Your reference indicates she doesn't know a basic fact on the issue.

What did she do, say, or propose that she's anointed an "expert" in energy issues?

I asked this elsewhere:

12. Her "expertise" in energy matters...
stems from the fact she's an Alaskan, and that her husband is employed in the oil industry.

If being an Alaskan makes you an expert on energy, the fact I'm from Idaho means I am an expert on potato farming.

In reality, her expertise on energy seems to be the knowledge of how to put gas in her car.

11. I'm just tired of her endless lies.
I don't think I have ever heard Palin say anything in a speech that wasn't a lie, an exaggeration of her record, or an undeserved smear. In her (one) interview, she revealed her lack of the national and international knowledge and experience required to be VP. "In what respect, Charlie?"

The last VP who had never met a single world leader before taking office was Spiro Agnew, whose only pre-VP experience was being governor of Maryland for a few years. He had to resign in disgrace over a bribery scandal that we didn't know enough yet to call Highwaygate. Following his resignation, his boss Richard Nixon was forced to step down as well as a result of Watergate.

These Republicans sure can govern, can't they?

15. I think that's their strategy
Keep the other side and the media so busy setting the record straight they don't have any time or money left to get out their own message.
