Command Center for all of Southeast Texas based at Tulley Stadium is out of food and water.

Rep John Culberson (R) is on KHOU on a news conference asking Houstonians to bring food and water to the emergency response command center.

Reporters are asking "Who dropped the ball?"

2. We already get better news from The Daily Show than from our "news sources"
If this shit keeps up, we can probably get real news from The Onion. :smoke:

4. WWL in New Oreans passed on real-time news & info during Katrina
These guys (KHOU) are just commenting on the aerial feed from the chopper and referring people to their website.

How can people in Houston go to the web for info when they have no electricity??

p.s.
On a more humorus note, *every* plane they see is a "C-130"...when actually they were looking at C-17 transports and one P-3 Orion recon plane.

6. Yeah. 300 first-responders at a command post run out of food at lunch
It's a damn shame they have to ask the general public to resupply them.

10. Somebody better tell the cops.
I saw where they weren't letting anyone into downtown.

And, I'm sure that all the people not watching their TV, because they don't have electricity, will rush right down to help them.

7. I'm living in the situation as we speak...
Edited on Sun Sep-14-08 03:25 PM by raystorm7
Folks crowding around gas stations till they open (whenever that will be). Any grocery store that's open has a line virtually wrapping around the physical building itself. Now we have cars showing up on the sidewalks and streets completely out of gas. Some restaurants (No power) are open but have been setup as outdoor BBQ's for those who ran out of food. Still a huge chunk of the city has a patchwork of residence with NO electricity since Friday night.

CenterPoint energy is a joke... Nice to see how a privately run energy company handles a major blackout in a major city. =/
If they had manned up on getting the electricity running again for a lot of the residence, then the whole water and food crisis would be nil and people would have stayed home.

People sure as hell are not going to be complain about those illegals cleaning up the mess for a few weeks.
Either way... its embarrassing for the Govt. and it sucks even if one is prepared. Bush & Co. can go to hell with all their grand promises bc we aren't depending on them for anything.

....again in future elections. These Republicans are real fucking clowns wherever they are in office. If you want responsive, responsible government, elect the DEMOCRATS.

24. Republicans want to make government agencies look bad so people want to privatize.
In my work with farm programs, I saw how they did this with USDA. They kept using misnomers like "market oriented" and "getting the government out" when, in fact they were making farmers more dependent on government checks and less able to live off the markets.

They make a clusterfuck of a mess out of FEMA and a bunch of other agencies and their stooges on RW talk radio will parrot, "See! Government can't work! Only the private sector can make this work!"

Never mind Enron, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and all of the banks and other big private businesses that have gone under or are on the brink of going under.

31. After the Northridge earthquake, our CITY-OWNED Dept of Water and
Power had electricity restored to most areas within 1-2 days (1 day for both my home and office 5 miles from the epicenter), and only places in the hills were without potable water for more than a few day.

When your utilities are provided by a for-profit company and there is a big economic hit like this, well, there tends to be a little foot-dragging if you get my drift.

Loud and Clear that Repukes can not take care of the needs of this country... then All is most definately lost. They can only be proactive when it comes to war.... never proactive when it comes to America.

23. Clowns, can't help but be clowns
We have all seen this before, Bush, McCain eating cake while NO was flooding, we all know you can´t put a clown in a position of authority. The sad part is bush (clown) put nothing but clowns in these positions. Wake up TX, your leader is failing you again.

30. They're only Republicans. They can't take care of themselves, let alone their citizens.
See, Republicans govern on the platform that government does not work, and when they are elected, they do their best to prove it.
