Fired Official: Governor Did Not Tell the Truth to ABC
Source: ABC News

"She's not telling the truth when she told ABC neither she nor her husband pressured me to fire Trooper Wooten," said Walt Monegan, the Alaskan official whose dismissal by Sarah Palin is the focus of a state investigation known as "Troopergate". "And she's not telling the truth to the media about her reasons for firing me."

In an exclusive interview with ABC News.com, former Alaska Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan said he resisted pressure by the First Couple to re-open an old case against a state trooper, who was in a hotly contested divorce and custody battle with the Governor's sister Molly.

----

"I was called to her Anchorage formal Governor's office to talk with Todd Palin about an issue that was a private family matter," recounted Monegan. Todd became "upset," Monegan recalled, when told the allegations had already been investigated and the case would not be re-opened.

"When Sarah later called to tell me the same thing, I thought to myself, 'I may not be long for this job.'" But, Monegan said, he stood by his position. "I held the public trust. As Chief, I was responsible."

-----

"This is not a 'he said she said' situation. Others were contacted by Todd and Sarah as well," according to Monegan, who said he was confident the investigation would find adequate documentation to corroborate his testimony.

1. Another Rethuglican Pathological LIAR...

Certainly not a surprise after the string of Palin's previous prevarications and deceptions.

If Sarah Palin is talking she is lying, dissembling and/or just full of stinking moose crap!

28. She does it so easily
Edited on Mon Sep-15-08 01:20 PM by NBachers
She is such a facile and immediate liar that people want to believe her. She's so easy with the lies, and easy on the eyes; unless you're on to her, the ease of her delivery is convincing. I contend she's the most talented liar since Reagan. She's still out on the stump delivering the "No thanks to Washington" whopper.

But you're right, so many lies have been exposed in so short a time, we've got to assume everything she says is a lie.

18. She gave him full introductions this morning in Colorado. It is VERY creepy to me, as a woman.
I only watched to see if she was going to give her same tired convention speech -- and she did, AGAIN, for the 100th time!

What's worse is she tells the same lies, because: she knows nothing about federal issues; she knows nothing about the economy; and she apparently was incapable of learning about them in the last three weeks, even with all the cliff notes from her handlers.

Todd Palin

The campaign believes that Todd Palin could be a huge asset with the blue-collar vote in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio.

"I think the best thing about Todd Palin, he's a man's man," family friend Kristan Cole told ABC News.

48. Don't get your panties in a twist.
There is nothing there that says gay=bad - what IS bad is deeply closeted gays hiding behind homophobia and hyper-religiosity because they've been trained since infancy that gay=bad.

It is not the gay that is bad - it is the perversity of the self-hatred of gays who believe it to be bad which is bad.

50. Gee, you claim to know so much about me, why don't you tell me?
Number one, I never claimed to be a "religionist". My profile states I'm a wedding officiant. That's what I do. If someone wants religion, they can go out in the parking lot, put on a blindfold, spin around five times and throw a stick. They're bound to hit a church. They're welcome to go to it. Yay. More's the power. That's what those are there for. I do weddings. WTF other business would a gay man be in but the wedding business?

Number two: Me? A homophobe? Boy, you haven't been keeping up at all. WAY not keeping up at all. Hurry up, now, we're all waiting.

I never said that gay was bad. If gay was suddenly bad, my husband would sure as shit be in for a shock and I'd have to start sleeping on the couch. Even after 12 years, that wouldn't be nearrrrrrly as much fun. He's still hot. And good at it.

I'll tell you what I'm sayin'. I don't believe Todd Palin is all that he claims to be. Not for a fucking instant. I've seen (and been the victim of) far too many gaybashing two-faced, self-loathing, hyper-religious, hyper-macho SOB's who were all too willing to be up to too much hanky-panky when they thought (1) they could get away with it and (2) they thought no one was looking. My husbear agrees and so do my gay friends. My str8 friends just don't like him and think he's an asshole and think that we gayfolks are probably right. We're still in conference and will get back to you.

That plain enough for ya?

19. Yeah, there's just too much info and too few decent journalists ...
... to cover all the Palin stories. We've heard very little about Palin exerting executive privilege to keep hundreds of emails away from the Troopergate investigator -- but that many of the supposedly sensitive emails were CC'd to Todd Palin. (How can she claim executive privilege when a public citizen is being CCd? Or what the heck is she doing CCing a public citizen on sensitive info?)

62. What kind CLW?
Edited on Mon Sep-15-08 06:46 PM by ann_american2004
Why it's the Maw and Paw Palin kind of course.

joke time:

McCain is sitting in his dressing room after the big Republican Convention. His advisers file into his room and ask him with concern, why is he so troubled and upset.
"Are you mad about us forcing you to pick Palin?" John McCain shakes his head. "No, it's not that."
"Are you mad you couldnt fill an 80,000 seat stadium?" John McCain said "No it's not that either."
Rove pushes in past the crowd and puffs up his chest, "Well then what is it? we haven't all day," he demands.
"Well I never agreed to this speech," McCain fussed.
Rove snorted. "Of course you did. I told you it would be about change."
"No you didnt. you said you would change me." McCain argued.
"But that IS change," Rove cried incredulously and huffed and puffed."You will be completely unrecognizable from your true self. A changed man."
"NO" McCain hollered jumping up and down, losing his temper. "You said you would CHANGE ME. I've been squirming up there for almost an hour with a full load in my pants."
"OH!" Rove gasped then quickly apologized to his Republican candidate. "I can fix this," Rove said.
Everyone sighed in relief for they knew how Rove could fix anything. Karl went to the door.
"I know just the person who can clean up this crap." He opened the door and hollered, "Oh Sarah--."
Sarah came in and quickly proceeded to clean up the mess. When she was done she discretely placed a piece of poop in her jacket pocket.
Rove stopped her with a gasp, "What on earth are you doing?" he asked.
She shyly smiled. "Well Karl, Im surprised you dont know! Just like you, one of my guilty pleasures is polishing turds."

bahdah boom ching
I know boo hiss...

See my post and subsequent sub-thread on the worthiness of the CM, and MSNBC in particular. I honestly don't give them much credit at all, but the fact that ABC--which airs the 700 Club on their affiliate stations, for God's sake--is reporting at all on Palin's lies is significant, imo.

26. What exactly do we know about the Palins?
Edited on Mon Sep-15-08 12:52 PM by sop
Somebody help me here. What do we actually know about the Palins as a couple beyond the gauzy GOP spin and all that rough-hewn, backwoodsy Alaskan mythology they put out during the RNC?

It's been reported that Sarah attended four or five different colleges/universities and graduated with some sort of degree in Sports Reporting. I've yet to see any reporting on what kind of a student Sarah was, her experiences from her college days, her grades, any recollections from college friends and professors, info about the usual school activities and associations and all the other stuff we should know by this time. All we know is that she turns up on the Wasilla town council with a few hundred votes and that's when the Palin saga begins.

What about Todd Palin? It's becoming more and more apparent that this guy is the power behind the throne. What's his background? Business associations? Political affiliations? Financial and tax records? Education, if any? Someone reported he had a DUI years ago, that he's a "champion snow machine racer", that he works in the "oil business and fishes", but not much else. I've never even heard his voice. How does this mystery man come by the knowledge and experience necessary to act as a shadow Governor, and perhaps do the same in the Washington? Could somebody please find out?

The double standard in this particular situation with the Palins is astonishing and extremely troubling. In contrast, we've been bombarded with all kinds of info about the Obamas and the Bidens, and the Kerrys and the Edwards in '04. Even previous GOP candidates have been closely scrutinized...the Bushes and Cheneys in 2000, and now John and Cindy McCain in 2008.

35. What about Todd Palin?
All I know about him is he works at a coveted job for BP. That's BRITISH Petroleum....not an American company.

And of course Sarah's church says he's the head of the household. I'll bet Sarah has to cook and serve up that moose after she guts it, and then cleans up the dishes. I'm sure she'll take orders like the "man's man" of the NG she is. She is obviously no leader, but a do-as-i'm-told member of the team, ready to not think but act at a moment's notice!
Just what we need in the Senate and the White House!

It's almost "a tragedy" when the only truly investigative AMERICAN news source comes from a Tabloid because "the suits" who OWN WALL STREET won't let their journalistic minions honestly do their jobs. Company vice American loyalty to "the God of Greed" prevails as mindset. At the high powered socials around the D.C. beltway, the journalists smooze with the political beasties and belittle "the people" as IDIOTS. We may not be organized but the lion's share of those of us within the American Electorate are far from clueless ... Wall Street don't mean squat when you don't have a job or a home (shelter). :grr:

IMO the most important task is to MAKE SURE people are not purged from voter roles etc., ... to make sure this upcoming Presidential Election is both free and fair.

chance to vote and have it count.lived in Broward (a most democratic county)

the "Watch: Edwards admits to extramarital affair" video link directly to the right of the article's title.

No matter that's way old news and a virtual non-starter since Edwards isn't running for anything...

Yep, fair. AND balanced.

to support the ruling political class, they can cite these few *small snippets* of truth seeking.

I fully concur but for reasons beyond Edwards, NOT one of the major M$M outlets can be considered anything less than "strategists for the power elite - with the ONLY goal to maintain the status quo." Some of the status quo power elite are democratic representatives but thank goodness I believe they do not include Obama or Biden. :(

On second reading, I guess you did indeed pick up on it. NM  :toast:

I fully agree with you tho', NONE of the U.S. MSM can be trusted. I get most of my news from the UK primarily and browse NYT, LAT & WaPo mostly to scoff, but the Brits disappoint more than they should -- as in the Russo-Georgian conflict when they were in lock-step with our home-grown, wall-to-wall propaganda :(

63. Trooper Moose Kill Conspiracy
Edited on Mon Sep-15-08 08:29 PM by NBachers
No, it's not a Wasilla garage band, it's an interesting sidelite about the Paliban's Moose Kill charges against Trooper Wooten.

According to Anchorage resident, blogger, and broadcaster Andrew Halcro:

"I'd like to share with my readers the other side of the story that I heard first hand while speaking with Wooten for several hours in the course of reviewing these documents.

The allegation of taking a moose illegally has to be the most ironic. In 2003, Wooten his wife Molly (Palin's sister) and a friend were boating up the Yenta River when they spotted a moose. Since Molly had the permit, he told her to shoot the moose. She refused, so Wooten shot the moose himself.

Snip

The irony is that Palin's father actually butchered the moose in his garage, and then after Wooten paid to have the meat processed, he shared the bounty between Todd and Sarah Palin and her father. (I added bold)

So although Sarah apparently has an issue with Wooten shooting a moose illegally, she certainly didn't have a problem eating the ill gotten gains and then filing a complaint two years later."

Here's the money quote from today's Matier & Ross collumn in the San Francisco Chronicle:

"In other words, Monegan said, the parents and sister might also have to answer for their actions if he were to pursue a case against the trooper."

80. Changed Story
On August 28, in an interview with Anchorage Daily News, Monegan said, "For the record, no one ever said fire Wooten. Not the governor. Not Todd. Not any of the other staff."

Just need to exercise a little caution. Monegan has changed his story, and that can certainly hurt his credibility.

Walt Monegan lost his job as public safety director because he resisted Gov. Sarah Palin's budget policies and showed "outright insubordination," say papers the governor's lawyer filed Monday with the state Personnel Board.
