Palin won't meet with 'Troopergate' investigator
Source: Chicago Examiner / AP

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Map, News) - A campaign spokesman says Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin won't speak with an investigator hired by lawmakers to look into the firing of her public safety commissioner.

McCain campaign spokesman Ed O'Callaghan told a news conference Monday that the governor, the Republican nominee for vice president, will not cooperate as long as the investigation "remains tainted." He said he doesn't know whether Palin's husband would challenge a subpoena issued to compel his cooperation.

The campaign insists the investigation has been hijacked by Democrats. It says it can prove Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan was fired because of insubordination on budget issues - not because he refused to fire a state trooper who had divorced Palin's sister.

12. You've got that right
Not only is it Cheney-esque, it's quite Rove-ian too.

The woman's not even in office yet, and she's already obstructing justice.

investigation in any way whatsoever.

We don need no stanky laws or Constitution..

17. You must be pretty young...it actually sounds Nixon-esque.

(first, let me apologize, I responded to the wrong posting, it was the "Cheney-esque" post that I wanted to respond to)

Nixon perfected the art of stonewalling. That is until his OWN "base" in Congress abandoned the crooked bastard.

It's going to happen here, too - what people forget is that the body doing the investigation has five members, three of which are republican (according to Olbermann a few minutes ago), and it was a republican who cast the deciding vote to issue the subpoenas to 13 people including the "first dude" (aka first asshole!)

The bottom line is that the longer she holds out and the more Nixon/Cheney like she becomes, the better it is for Obama. People are just plain SICK AND TIRED of this crap.

3. The McCain campaign's insistence that this is partisan is bullshit.
Edited on Mon Sep-15-08 07:40 PM by Blue_In_AK
The investigation was fully supported by both Republicans and Democrats in the legislature. There's no way the Democrats could "hijack" the investigation since they're in the minority. I wish John McCain would get out of Alaska's local politics. He doesn't belong here.

25. And as TPM points out, this announcement was not made by Palin herself,
or a spokesman for the governor, or anyone speaking for the state of Alaska, but by a spokesman for the McCain campaign. Odd, no?

26. If the Democrats were Republicans
If the Democrats were Republicans how much hay would they make of Troopergate? Where are the billionaire Democrats willing to fund investigations, get out rumors, etc. (It's sad, but what do you fight fire with?)
