Palin: E-mails explain 'Troopergate' firing
Source: AP

Sept. 15, 2008

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Lawyers for Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin have released e-mails detailing what they say is the real reason she dismissed Walt Monegan, the public safety commissioner whose firing prompted the "Troopergate" controversy.

In a papers filed Monday, the lawyers wrote that Monegan was fired for opposing Palin's budget priorities. They cited e-mails in which top Palin staffers expressed concern with his approach.

They also cited an e-mail Monegan sent his colleagues encouraging them to communicate better with Palin.

Lawmakers are investigating whether Palin, the Republican nominee for vice president, fired Monegan because he refused to dismiss an Alaska state trooper going through a child-custody dispute with her sister.

6. After she decided to fire him, she started the "paper trail"
All companies do that when they decide they want to fire someone. Any excuse will do, just write it down, put it in file.

Mission Accomplished.

8. No Palin disagreed with Palin on the budget. She sent him an email telling him to -
cut trooper positions. Then she fired him for not filling trooper positions. Like she was for the bridge to nowhere and then came out against it. Like she asks for earmarks before coming out against then. Oh hell, while coming out against them. She's a real Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde or is that Ms. Heckle and Mrs. Fried? Oh well, either way there is only one cure for what she has. 10. John McCain campaign tries to quell 'Troopergate'
Source: AP via Yahoo

~*snip*~

The last straw, the McCain campaign said, was in July, when Monegan planned to travel to Washington to seek federal money for a plan to assign troopers, judges and prosecutors who could exclusively handle sexual assault cases — one of the state's most intractable crime problems.

In a July 7 e-mail, John Katz, the governor's special counsel, noted two problems with the trip: The governor hadn't agreed the money should be sought, and the request was "out of sequence with our other appropriations requests and could put a strain on the evolving relationship between the Governor and Sen. (Ted) Stevens."

Four days later, Monegan was fired. He said he had kept others in the administration fully apprised of his plans to go to Washington.

11. Send her packing. That will get it out of the national news.
How many bad choices has mccain made in his run for president. He´s gone through a number of high profile staffers and now he´s picked the US economy as a winner. He´s on a steak.

Heck, we wouldn't want any sexual assault cases to put a strain on an evil-volving relationship, would we?

13. Republicans pushing early absentee voting in Ohio
Yesterday my son - who is registered as an Independent - got a mailer from the Ohio GOP which was a whole lotta anti-Obama and pro-McCain propaganda about tax increases, along with two applications for an absentee ballot, pre-addressed to our county board of election. In Ohio, we can vote absentee by mail or in person as far as 35 days in advance of the general election, and no reason is required. And 35 days happens to be just before the VP debate. I think the GOP is sending these out to take advantage of the Palin-phenomenon and get people to vote McCain/Palin as soon as possible - before Palin looks the fool in the debates or before more negatives come out about her. Or before people finally get wise to the constant lies. The mailer says, you know, vote in the privacy of your home, avoid the long lines at your polling place. Ohio is not the only state that allows such early absentee voting, so I am sure the GOP is rushing to do this in other states. I also got an email today from the Ohio McCain campaign (gotta know your enemy), telling me there were still plenty of tickets available for Palin's rally on Tuesday near Youngstown. Poor Sarah - maybe women aren't as crazy for her as the GOP leads us to believe. I saw today that they got caught falsifying the crowd totals for her rallies - like saying there were 23,000 in Fairfax when there were only 8000. Hell, I think even the whole Palin phenomenon is just another lie perpetuated by the GOP.

14. the more mccain-palin try to keep a lid on it
the more it leaks out

the story changes, again. If monegan was fired for circumventing "protocal" - why wasn't this information released when the subject of troopergate first hit the headlines?

and then there's this version:
Palin: Monegan wasn't fired, he quit
Published: Sept. 13, 2008 - UPI
http://www.upi.com/Top_News/2008/09/13/Palin_Monegan_wasnt_fired_he_quit/UPI-43651221349973/

NEW YORK, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, under investigation for the dismissal of a former commissioner of public safety, says she didn't fire him -- he quit.

In an interview with The New Yorker, the Republican vice presidential nominee said she wanted Walter Monegan to accept a reassignment as director of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, where he would focus on Alaska's drinking problem.

"It was a job that was open, commensurate in salary, pretty much -- $10,000 less," but she told the magazine Monegan didn't want the job so he quit working for the state.

meanwhile:
..."evolving relationship between the Governor and Sen. (Ted) Stevens." I'd like to know exactly what's involved with the evolving....

20. Do I understand this correctly? The McCain defense is the governor's
"evolving relationship" with Ted Stevens? That's like uncovering a dinner invitation from Jeffrey Dahmer.

Isn't this a state of Alaska problem? Can't the governor of Alaska put on her big-girl panties and deal with it herself?

26. Some of those "budget priorities" included funding for programs having to do with rape
Monegan wanted more resources to target sexual assault since it's such a problem in Alaska. He wanted a sex crimes task force. But ol' Shoots Wolves From a Plane opposed it. She is one sick fuck IMHO.
