Palin supports $600 million 'other' bridge project
Source: NYT - AP

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- Gov. Sarah Palin may eventually have said ''no thanks'' to a federally funded Bridge to Nowhere.

But a bridge to her hometown of Wasilla, that's a different story.

A $600 million bridge and highway project to link Alaska's largest city to Palin's town of 7,000 residents is moving full speed ahead, despite concerns the bridge could worsen some commuting and threaten a population of beluga whales. ...

... ''This is basically an incredibly expensive project that doesn't help commuters, doesn't help create jobs and may drive whales to extinction,'' said Justin Massey, an attorney advising environmentalists opposed to the proposal. ''It is also a project that serves the area where the governor is from, which is near and dear to her heart.'' ...

In 2005, Mccain called this project wasteful.

5. Leave Bristol Out Of This
The other jab about the meth labs is just fine as would a jab about the tanning bed Palin has put in the Governor's mansion but cheap shots against a confused teenager should be way off limits.

9. And now she is making another side show out of her 7 year old
From the AP...

Source:

CANTON, Ohio--In her first solo fundraiser as the GOP vice presidential nominee, Sarah Palin made much of what she calls "that Ohio-Alaskan connection."

She noted that her seven-year old daughter Piper "was wearing her Ohio State cheerleading outfit" as she bounded down the stairs to welcome her home last week. She boasted that she has taken a tough line against predators (approving the shooting of wolves from helicopters), just like Ohioans target coyotes. "It's a pretty darn controversial thing up in Alaska, but you've gotta do what you've gotta do!" she declared. ...

F-ing sick.

23. I agree she did put her
Children in this but they are just that children. She appears to me to be a child abuser and we should not take part in her sick games. Best to point out her exploitation of her kids rather than pick on them. I have a problem with the 5th child being claimed to be Caribou Barbie's and I think that should be looked at even though it does involve her 17 year old daughter. I mean Palin never even told her mother or sister that she was pregnant till 7 months. Talk about shock and awe. And to go on with this bullshit is abusing Bristol.

27. I don't approve of attacks against the girl
no matter how trashy she & her boyfriend, er, fiancee :eyes: appear, but as for the sheer hypocrisy of her unwedded RepubliCon pregnancy of a different color TM, IMO that's wide open season.

As for McSame/Pa(l)in trying to hoodwink Ohio ...good luck to them! (That was facetious of course, no luck to them would be my fervent wish). The people in the Wilmington/Dayton/Cincinnati area --and for that matter, most of Ohio-- (sans of course the deluded koolaid drinkers who would back Grampy & Gunny even if they were to throw them all out of work) are NOT going to forget the fearful, dangerous situation John W McBush and his hired crony Lobbyist has put them in.

I'd like to say good riddance, but my thoughts and prayers are with those poor people. DHL closing would send that entire area into an irreversible tailspin.

31. Me think not!
True, a jab at Bristol should be off-limits. However the jab
is not at her, but at her mother. Kids mistakes reflect badly
on mom&pop's parenting skills. If she couldn't care for
her daughter, how would she care for the whole country? By
reading safe driving slogans off the teleprompter while the
country is driving off the cliff?

28. Alaska has no tax whatsoever
Edited on Tue Sep-16-08 01:25 PM by Cherchez la Femme
There is no State tax, no sales tax (heck, they even send out thousand+ dollar checks biyearly to Alaskans* as dividends instead of putting it in Federal coffers since they get so much money from the government); therefore any municipal money is from the taxpayers from the other 49 states :(

*Alaska's slogan should therefore be 'We have to pay you to live here'

Maybe directly or indirectly, and I know it is way off the subject...but this lady seems to be careless and destructive to the environment, the animals and the people around her.

19. Did I read this right?
It seems like they are talking about $600 million dollars of Alaska money, not $600 million dollars of federal money. While it is a colossal waste of money either way to spend $600 million for a bridge to a town of 7,000 people, it does look like they are spending "their" money.

I put "their" in quotations because of course Alaska does pull in a lot of money from the federal government, and if it wasn't for the federal investments in drilling and whatnot, they wouldn't be pulling in huge oil revenues either.

21. I guess there just aren't enough strip malls and big-boxes in Wasilla...
so they build this bridge, and even MORE will show up!

(I was going to say that Wasilla, a town with under 10,000 people in it, can't possibly get by unless they have both a Lowe's and a Home Depot. But thanks to the untiring efforts of our Republican VP candidate, they have both already.)

24. NY Times still pushing the myth
Forget the fact that Palin NEVER UTTERED THE WORDS "THANKS, BUT NO THANKS", the Times feels it's their job to further the myth.

I don't give a crap that this story is true and that Palin is a liar, I'm glad the NY Times is finally doing their job, but please....in the first paragragh, they advance the lie that Palin ever told Congress "thanks, but no thanks".

My God, would Orwell be proud? In a story that is overwhelmingly negative to Palin, the NY Times gives wing-nuts a "two-fer".

On one hand, the "wing-nuts" will argue that you can't believe the NY Slimes because of it's "terrible liberal bias".

On the other hand, they'll point out..."even the NY Slimes says that Palin told Congress 'thanks, but no thanks'".

When we win this year, we really, really, REALLY need a "torches and pitchfork" "Come-to-Jesus" fix of the MSM!

30. OK first I'll start with a question because i'm not clear on something
and that is how exactly would the bridge "worsen some commuting", the whole idea I thought for bridges was usually like this is to lessen the commuting time from one place to another, right?
The worry about the whales I can kinda understand though but not the commuting one.
Also incoming snarky comment now, Well folks, atleast this time the bridge does go "somewhere" :P hehe
