Poll: (Schwarzenegger's) ratings down; recall unlikely
Source: San Francisco Chronicle

Most California voters aren't willing to recall Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger even though they think his job performance is slipping, according to a new Field Poll to be released today.

By more than a 2-1 ratio, voters said they would oppose an effort by the state prison guards' union to recall the governor if it appears on the ballot, according to the poll of 1,008 voters statewide.

... Schwarzenegger, who was elected five years ago when Gov. Gray Davis was recalled, faces sharply declining approval ratings as the state grapples with budget delays and funding shortfalls. Just 38 percent of voters approve of his job performance in the latest poll, down from 60 percent in December.

... But the governor's staff said the poll results, which show only 29 percent of voters would vote to recall Schwarzenegger while 63 percent would keep him, are vindication.

1. The prison guards union is one of the most hated organizations in the state
Nobody wuvs them.

One important fact the article fails to mention - Arnold is term-limited out. He can't run for re-election in 2010.

5. They're generally right-wing, and constantly lobby for more prisons, laws, tougher sentences, etc.
Job security as well as more money for them.
