McCain, Republicans Have Twice as Much Cash as Obama
Source: Bloomberg

John McCain and the Republican National Committee entered the two-month general election campaign with twice as much money to spend as Democratic nominee Barack Obama. ...

... ``McCain will have more than enough communication dollars to display his message,'' said Republican consultant Eddie Mahe.

Since Obama is not taking taxpayer funds for the general election, he can continue to raise money privately; in August, he brought in a record $66 million. McCain can no longer raise money for his campaign, except to cover some legal and accounting costs. In addition, Obama has already paid for an extensive get-out-the- vote operation that the Republicans are just now funding.

Still, the Republican Party money can be spent promoting McCain as long as it's not directly coordinated with his campaign. ...

5. Yes, but who is holding it?
Fannie Mae? Freddie Mac? Merrill Lynch? Washington Mutual? When accepting payment from Republicans, don't settle for bank drafts or credit card numbers, just the folding green stuff.

9. This is the warchest from the period when he clenched
To now. Before he took Federal money, he had several months after he clenched when he was doing nothing but scrounging money. No real expenses, so the money piled up. Obama was still engaged against Hillery, so he was still spending.

8. does all the money the republicans have made off the Iraq war count as federal funding?
Maybe we should start bull shit wars to rob the US Treasury with to fund our next candidate to start a bull shit war to rob the US Treasury with to fund our next candidate.......

Maybe Obama should just seize their assests and throw all their asses in jail for war profiteering. Can you say Prescott Bush? I know you can.

11. Curious turn of phrase from the story
McCain and the Republican National Committee have twice as much money to spend as Obama. That's Obama alone, folks. And all the money that Obama has on hand to run his campaign gets spent on his campaign. In addition to trying to fluff McCain and make him look at all palatable to the electorate, the RNC has to spend money on 33 Senate races and 435 House races. Think every penny in the RNC's coffers is going to be spent on McCain and his invention of the Blackberry? Think again.

But it makes for a nice bed-time fairy tale for ignorant Republican supporters. So that when their man loses in November, they can piss and moan about how the election was stolen or something. Well, they'll piss and moan for sure. They're certainly better at that than they are at governing.

12. right o, the DNC is hanging in there too....
In June, the Democratic National Committee's fund raising haul shot up to $22-million, nearly matching the Republican National Committee's $26-million. Combined with Obama's $52-million, which more than doubled McCain's $22-million, that meant a big edge for Democrats.
