Investigators from the Australian record industry Friday raided a Sydney office housing the company that owns Kazaa, the world's largest file swapping network, in a bid to uncover evidence of alleged copyright infringements.

The Federal Court gave five major Australian record labels permission to raid 12 premises in three states to collect evidence against Kazaa, said Michael Speck, general manager of the Music Industry Piracy Investigations. ...

The raided sites included the office of Kazaa owner Sharman Networks, the homes of two of the company's executives, three Australian universities and Internet service providers.

Speck said the record industry would launch a civil action against Kazaa, owned in Australia by Sharman Networks, in the Federal Court on Tuesday. ...

3. What do they expect to find? Kazaa is peer-to-peer. It's not centralized
All Sharman Networks does is update a program that other folks use.

4. hmmm
next product development and R&D or stong arm tactics and litigation?

Bring on the lawyers and jackboots!!!!

Feh! Screw the labels. It's this behavior tat will turn more artists and fans away from wanting to care abut their pain.

7. The Music Industry did it to themselves...
Greed is the name of the game..I still buy artists that I like but fankly music today sucks..And anything I want to hear I already have..If it was more about the music than the money and talent then just trying to sell and image then the industry might get the public behind them in the file shareing war..But till them they are nothing but already rich geed mongers trying to bust kids for downloading music. But thats my 2 cents..I do feel bad for the artists that have talent working like crazy for the art they love..They deserve you money..But at 15 to 18 bucks a pop im sure its tough for kids to buy music in GW Bushs econ...They should bring back the single!!!! That might help.

Out there--Imesh has now gotten a spyware-free version, as has Limewire. KazaaLite has been spyware-free for quite a long time....

16. I would tell people to get rid of Kazaa
how do you think they're able to go after individuals?

Seize the records at the home office? Sounds right.
