5. They might not mean anything
But it takes the talking point away from all the MSM when they constantly run polls and showed Obama behind. This poll had Obama behind 8 pts. At least you don't have to scream at the TV now.

8. Gallup Daily: Obama 47%, McCain 45%
Source: Gallup

PRINCETON, NJ -- The Sept. 14-16 Gallup Poll Daily tracking update shows Barack Obama regaining a slight, although not statistically significant, edge over John McCain, 47% to 45%, among registered voters, marking the first time since the week of the Republican National Convention that McCain has not held at least a one percentage point margin over Obama.

Even Gallup can't hide the fact that the tide has now turned in Obama's favor.

9. I wonder what the numbers actually are
What even would Gallup's numbers show if they hadn't adjusted their likely voter computation at the same time that is shown to be a drop on the graph for Obama.

Honestly I'll be shocked if Obama doesn't get over 50% on election day, and the clear winner of the electoral college. I just don't buy any of these polls anymore.

10. Interesting chart
McSame's low is 41% while Obama's is 43%.

McClone's high is 49% while Obama's is 50%

McJoke's highs and lows are lower. In classical chart reading that is good news.

13. Does that edge really matter
if we don't have integrity of the vote?

Even if this is an accurate poll (highly doubtable as Obama is, without doubt, much higher in ratings than they'll ever tell us), The right-wing voter suppression machine can make up that difference easily at the polls with not so much as a slight of hand. They put the machinery in place well over eight years ago, and little to nothing has been done to change it. In fact, their suppression methodology has expanded and become all the more exclusive.

Sorry, I don't mean to rain on your parade RedSpartan, honestly. It's just that I'm feeling we are being set up yet again to have it stolen.

And would-be flamers, OF COURSE I'm voting this fall AND voting for Obama, and OF COURSE I'm doing everything I can to promote his election. Frustration demands that I vent, however, and this thread is the unfortunate recipient of the fallout.

16. I'm in Virginia
And I can tell you that I'm really shocked that all the polls have this a close race in VA. I believe VA goes for Obama and goes big. They don't take into account all of the newly registered voters.

17. It's a legitimate concern
and I share it. But with the hundreds of thousands of new registered Democrats, the ground game being put in place, and Obama's camp already taking steps to try and weed out election shenanigans, I have faith that we will prevail in the end. Turnout will be key, but I have to remain optimistic, for my own sanity if nothing else.

15. So, if Obama was at 45 for four days, then hit a 47 3-day average, what did he poll yesterday?

26. According to my estimates--which are probably a little off--I think Obama had a monster day
Edited on Wed Sep-17-08 01:20 PM by StevieM
yesterday. It seems, working backwards in the polling, that McCain and Obama were tied in the polling performed two days ago, with McCain up by 1 point three days ago. I'm basing that on the previous weeks tracking numbers and their changes, day-by-day. For Obama to suddenly have a 2-point lead he would need to have outpolled McCain by 6 points yesterday. That would produce a 1 2/3-point average for Obama, which rounds up to 2.

If Obama suddenly went from being tied with McCain in Monday's polling to beating him by 6 points in Tuesday's polling, then we could be looking at a real game-changer. A six-point sudden shift in the polling isn't normal, unless something major has changed. I'm thinking that the collapse of Lehman Brothers has refocused the election on the economy. If Obama polls at 6 points again today, then tomorrow's tracking numbers should have him up by 4 (6 on Wed, 6 on Tues, 0 on Wed).

Steve
