Where Are Sarah Palin's Tax Returns?
Source: ABC News

Vice Presidential Candidate Has Yet to Share Her Filings

As election day comes ever nearer, Democrats and open-government advocates are pressing for the GOP vice presidential candidate to release her tax filings, a campaign tradition that extends at least to the post-Watergate era.

...

Since 1976, every major-party presidential and vice-presidential candidate has provided that information to the public, according to an analysis by ABC News. Until Palin, only three hopefuls have held onto their tax returns this late:

...

A spokesman for Palin Thursday reiterated the campaign's stance on the matter. "We plan to release Governor Palin's tax returns well before the election," said Taylor Griffin.

For Ritsch, that's not good enough. "A campaign that is touting what it will do to make government more transparent can take a first step by making the candidates transparent." Nicholas Tucker contributed to this report.

She's a woman for christ sake you can't expect her to make as much as a man. That's grocery money and her gas money. Remember she's a MOM. Sexist Bastards

19. They'll release them during the next big manufactured Obama flap
The media is cyclical, one week they're hammering McCain, the next week they're slamming Obama....got to be fair and balanced, after all. There are still several weeks left before the election, plenty of time for the GOP to launch their next "Obama Scandal" offensive. This will probably take the form of some incredible and unsubstantiated charge, followed by immediate calls from the McCain camp for full and complete disclosure from the Obama campaign....I can hear them now: "Obama has to come clean on this!". This phony and manufactured "scandal" will probably be taken up by the media, hyped and distorted beyond all reason, and will be the latest "distraction of the week". Look for the tax records to be dumped right around that time.

Just like they did with McCain's medical records. They will assemble all of Palin's tax records for the last 20 years -- Todd's too -- and the kids. They will have everything jumbled up. Then, they'll give reporters one hour to look at them, no photos, no taking notes.

Here we have the GOP version of the shake 'em up, transparency in government crowd. It's a joke. With this and refusing subpoenas, what's new? "The kids are off limits" "We'll show you when we're ready"... but you chose a public life. Deal with it.

Like I said earlier, let's see this warrantless surveillance clan champion privacy laws.

29. WHAT IS PALIN HIDING?
Palin refuses to be questioned by the press, refuses to answer a subpoena, hasn't released her tax returns -- what the hell is she hiding and how is McCain/Palin (or is that Palin/McCain?) getting away with this?

If a Democratic candidate tried this bullshit they'd be lambasted by the right wing press until they gave in. We can't have fair elections if the candidates aren't all treated equally. The press needs to bring this up at every opportunity -- at every McCain/Palin appearance.

These people are as arrogant and secretive as the Bush White House -- and what's left of our democracy certainly can't survive four more years of that.

THEY ARE RUNNING OUT THE CLOCK....

I know everyone here knows this. I just had to shout it.
Repukes have NOTHING but to try to run out the clock as life ebbs from their
miserable campaign.

No one in McCain's camp knows crap about economics, domestic or foreign policy, or anything.
It doesn't matter to them, because it isn't about that. McCain-Palin are just frontmen.
Its about getting elected on a bunch of disingenuous crap then later putting
together a government of the same old chickenshit chrony scum-sucking repukes (and we all
know who I'm talking about). That's why its called MCSAME!

They won't address substance. They don't HAVE ANY.
They think they can do this without substance.
They calculate that they HAVE to do it WITHOUT substance.

So there won't be any debates. There won't be substantive responses to criticism.
Obama-McCain debate? Biden-Palin debate? You gotta be joking. Ain't happening.

TIME IS THE PRECIOUS COMMODITY NOW.
They are not going to fight back with substance, they can't, they won't.
So it is TIME to hit them with their dirty dishes and throw the kitchen sink.
Make it stick. WHERE ARE PALIN"S TAX RETURNS????

But it does me no good to do it here in CA. CA is going for Obama. You DUer in
battleground states (like OH) are the important players now. It is your TIME to
make ALL the difference. The battle must be won on the ground, we cannot do it
from the air (Murdoch has air superiority, in case you hadn't noticed). It is TIME
that reluctant warriors stand and be heard. Grandma, we ask your service once again,
to keep our country safe. Son, you owe a debt of service to your grandmother, get
on it or lose your place of honor.

Its TIME!
The aspirations of the world are now focused on the few, on US.
Will we stand and fight????

51. The per diems are being questioned
Several tax accounting blogs have raised the question: should Sarah Palin pay federal income taxes on the per-diem payments that she received from the state of Alaska for nights spent in her Wasilla, Alaska, home?

Anthony C. Infanti, a professor of tax law at the University of Pittsburg law school, raised the issue in a blog called “Feminist Law Professors.” Mr. Infanti writes that if Governor Palin was not engaging in business while in Wasilla, but simply preferring to spend the nights there, then the per diem payments would be taxable income.

“If these are really just personal expenses paid by her employer, that sounds like taxable income to me,” Mr. Infanti wrote in his posting.

Ms. Palin received around $17,000 in per diem payments from the state for 312 nights she spent in her Wasilla home rather than the Governor’s mansion in her first 19 months in office. Per diem payments are a daily allowance to cover meals and lodging while on the state’s business.

Kim Garnero, the Alaska director of finance, has said that the state does not consider the payments to Ms. Palin to be taxable income at the federal level. But others, besides Mr. Infanti, differ. One of them is Robert S. McIntyre, director of the Citizens for Tax Justice, a labor-backed group whose calculations are widely respected by tax experts.

“It’s obvious that the per diems are taxable income. There’s no question it is taxable,’’ Mr. McIntyre said. “If it were not taxable, no one would pay taxes. People would convert their salary into a per diem and no one would pay taxes. You can deduct travel expenses when away from home. But you cannot deduct travel when you are at home.”
