Exclusive: New Doubts Over Palin's Troopergate Claims
Edited on Fri Sep-19-08 07:55 PM by RamboLiberal
Source: ABC News

An internal government document obtained by ABC News appears to contradict Sarah Palin's most recent explanation for why she fired her public safety chief, the move which prompted the now-contested state probe into "Troopergate."

"The last straw," her lawyer argued, came when he planned a trip to Washington, D.C., to seek federal funds for an aggressive anti-sexual-violence program. The project, expected to cost from $10 million to $20 million a year for five years, would have been the first of its kind in Alaska, which leads the nation in reported forcible rape.

The McCain-Palin campaign echoed the charge in a press release it distributed Monday, concurrent with Palin's legal filing. "Mr. Monegan persisted in planning to make the unauthorized lobbying trip to D.C.," the release stated.

But the governor's staff authorized the trip, according to an internal travel document from the Department of Public Safety, released Friday in response to an open records request.

The document, a state travel authorization form, shows that Palin's chief of staff, Mike Nizich, approved Monegan's trip to Washington D.C. "to attend meeting with Senator Murkowski." The date next to Nizich's signature reads June 18.

Ooops - caught lying again! Now they will claim Nizich signed in wrong place - note it was for out-of-country, not out-of-state. Maybe they consider D.C. out-of-country!

45. wow. that's harsh.
On November 24, 1976, his weather spot came up just after a report of a violent rape of a five year old girl. Tex thereupon quipped: "With rape so predominant in the news lately, it is well to remember the words of Confucius: 'If rape is inevitable, lie back and enjoy it.'"

85. clayton williams said that to a group of reporters
when he was running for governor against Ann Richards. Because of that remark, even Texas voted her in by over 100,000 votes. She made serious hay with that remark. Sounds like the people of Alaska need to get mad like we did 15 years ago.

Confucius was very anti-woman. You'd think people would have progressed just a little bit from that evil, predatory mentality. God, we can be so primitive.

21. I think that was the angle Rachel Maddow covered on Thursday's show
The coverup lie is MUCH worse than what they're trying to defend against. At least in the original framing, they could have said they were unhappy that a trooper like Wooten was allowed to continue on the job. But their latest excuse is that they were against Monegan's efforts to fight sexual abuse in the state. Wow.

Palin is truly a show-motion political train wreck.

94. Personally, I say, if you're going to wonder about her motives in a public
forum, keep SPIN in mind.

It's not 'Is she against women?"

It SHOULD be 'I wonder who she's trying to protect? Todd? Track? Another family member?"

Because, she could be trying to protect someone just as easily as she's against women.

And, it's no different than the Repug speculation on any Democrat.

96. BELIEVE!
Just for you.
King James Version
Matthew:15-17
15:Beware of false prophets which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
16:You shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorn or figs of thistles?
17:Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
Point - Not every one who says they are a believer is a christian.
Matthew:21-23
21:Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven;but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22:Many will say to me in that day Lord, Lord have we not prophesied and cast out devils in thy name? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23:And then I will profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Point - We can believe in Jesus but does Jesus know us? Not all people that believe in him are for him nor do they obey his word.

There's also Statutory Rape. Even if both parties consent, if the person is underage, you go to jail. In my eyes, while you CAN make a case for statutory rape laws, to me it's really a bullshit charge for the sole reason that it frequently seems to land kids in trouble. The age of consent for girls is very often higher than the age of consent for boys. So even if both are of the same age, if the girl is underage, the boy will get charged with statutory rape if it ever becomes known that they had sex, which is completely ridiculous as the whole purpose of that law is supposed to be to shield minors from adults, not punish boys for deciding to have consensual sex with their girlfriends, who just so happen to be underage, even though they're around the same age.

Sorry for the off-topic rant, but while neither I nor anybody I know has ever been subjected to such injustice, the blatant double-standard just really pisses me off.

24. New Doubts Over Palin's Troopergate Claims
Source: ABC News

An internal government document obtained by ABC News appears to contradict Sarah Palin's most recent explanation for why she fired her public safety chief, the move which prompted the now-contested state probe into "Troopergate."

Fighting back against allegations she may have fired her then-Public Safety Commissioner, Walt Monegan, for refusing to go along with a personal vendetta, Palin on Monday argued in a legal filing that she fired Monegan because he had a "rogue mentality" and was bucking her administration's directives.

The document, a state travel authorization form, shows that Palin's chief of staff, Mike Nizich, approved Monegan's trip to Washington, D.C., "to attend meeting with Senator Murkowski." The date next to Nizich's signature reads June 18.

He seems to be co-Governor or something even though he was never elected and didn't even finish high school. (Apparently nobody in Alaska does. Sarah herself had to go to six colleges before she managed to get a degree! What's with that?)

Edited on Fri Sep-19-08 11:31 PM by LaStrega
Ergo would lead the nation in women forced to bring to full term a resulting pregnancy if McPalin were to be the veep.

:puke:

I'm glad ABC ran with this. I wonder if it'll be on teevee.

k&r

ON EDIT: If you read the comments (I only perused a few) 99.9% (of what I read) are sternly anti-McPalin.

them off, use it to your advantage, force them to change the news stories away from the obvious, take the campaign to where you want to take it.. the stories, network headlines, sound bites, You Tube, the controlled fluff! Kick ass!

But....Dems don't know how to (or don't want to) fight against these ugly lying, greedy, hateful republican corporate insects.....You got to fucking fight them!

Must be nice, though...Finally, Obama is now making his points, still gently doing so, and, getting bolder at it each day....but....NOT ENOUGH!!

You've got to know or learn how to go in for the kill.

Republicans are masters at it.

If so, is she proud of this?

And as for the rape kit charges - my gosh, this woman is horrible! Alaska LEADS THE NATION IN REPORTED FORCIBLE RAPE and she wants the victims to pay?

why would she feel she has to learn? She is after all only following the wingnut republican playbook.Lie your ass off then cover that with an even larger lie while the barbecue-besotted media coughs politely into their hands and averts their eyes. They've gotten away with this sort of behavior for so long they think it's a state of being.A truly well functioning press in this country would have rightfully savaged this poseur long ago and we'd be done with her and likely jetjock johnny mcinane as well.

Like that bastard Reagan who should have spent the rest of his life in prison for Iran-Contra alone.

SO far McCain/Palin are getting the same treatment. Instead of reporting the damning facts on these two the MSM runs bullshit stories on anything but the facts to keep American voters from realizing the truth about the Republican candidates.

72. Palin's husband among those who will be referred for contempt.
By WESLEY LOY
wloy@adn.com

Published: September 20th, 2008 04:04 AM
Last Modified: September 20th, 2008 04:57 AM

The Anchorage Democratic senator heading the legislative investigation, Hollis French, said the snubs won't stop the inquiry into whether the governor abused her powers by pressuring an ex-Cabinet member to fire a state trooper involved in a rough divorce from her sister.

After waiting half an hour to see if any witnesses would show up, French, who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, said legislative investigator Steve Branchflower will proceed with his investigation and will finish his report as scheduled on Oct. 10.

He listed three witnesses who had complied with the committee's subpoenas, and said seven others -- all state employees in the Palin administration -- had not yet been served but soon will be because they failed to appear voluntarily to testify Friday.

Three others -- Todd Palin, the governor's deputy chief of staff, Randy Ruaro, and aide Ivy Frye -- will be referred to the full Senate for contempt for failing to comply with their subpoenas, French said.

http://www.adn.com/troopergate/story/531785.html

....
Responding to Elton's assertion the attorney general broke a deal for seven state employees to cooperate without the need to serve subpoenas, Colberg wrote the employees were in a jam: They could voluntarily comply with the subpoenas, or they could side with their boss, Palin, who has said she'll cooperate only with a separate investigation the state Personnel Board is conducting.

Elton pointedly challenged Colberg on how he figures complying with a subpoena is voluntary.

"I hope you are not asserting that being a loyal employee subject to the supervision of the governor is of equal weight to the constitution or the rule of law," Elton wrote.

83. Palin's religious beliefs must have something to do with her pathological aversion to rape victims.
Seriously. There can be no other reason that she seems to averse to helping rape victims, or fund ways to stop rapes. I'm not clear about her exact relgious tracts, but they seem to be in play here. I have never seen a woman so anti-woman before. In many extremist fundamentalist congregations, men are considred so elevated above women that physical and sexual violence is blamed on the women, and a husband is given complete power over his wife. This could also be why Palin has her husband skulking around all the time.. the shadow governor.. because in her religious beliefs a woman can NEVER be in charge of men.

Do you recall when that fundamentalist christian school refused to play another school because a FEMALE COACH was heading the other team of boys? They do not believe that a woman should have any power over men. I guarantee that's why Todd is so ass-deep in the government there, it's probably common knowledge in her church that he is really in charge.

And it just blows me away that Alaska, rape capitol of America, has a governor that does everything in her power to make sure it stays that way. What an awful place for women!!!

He enjoyed the national limelight at first. But then, the vetting process and public scrutiny began -- followed by accusations of wrongdoing and indictments. If he hadn't reached beyond his level of competence he would have maintained his level of power in New York City. The Palin nomination could turn out the same way.
