Rangel calls Palin “disabled”
Source: The Associated Press

... Asked during an interview with New York's WCBS-2 television why Democrats seem afraid of Pailin's popularity, Rangel replied: "You got to be kind to the disabled."

The reporter repeated the phrase.

"Yes," replied Rangel and then added, "There's no question about it. Politically it's a nightmare to think that a person's foreign policy is based on their ability to look at Russia from where they live."

Soon after the interview aired, Rangel in a statement said that he meant to say "disadvantaged."

"Governor Palin is an obviously healthy person who in no way fits the description of disabled. I meant to say then, and I am saying now, that she entered the campaign with a disadvantage in the area of foreign policy," said Rangel.

1. Rangel needs a long break from office.
I keep voting against him but he's like an untouchable. His gaffe doesn't help Obama and makes that woman look more like a victim than the Republicans have been milking.

Obama and his campaign had nothing to do with this, but that won't stop the media. At least he tried to say something right away.

5. Rangek
Unless you live in New York, you really don't know Charlie Rangel. He's been a thorn in the side of the rethugs for so long that he gets a pass from me on just about anything. He is a lot smarter then you give him credit for and wll come out on top on this thing mark my words.Any way he will continue to get relected. Get over it and don't stress out so much.

And that is why I like him so much. He (and Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson) drives the republicans absolutely nuts.

And I hold him among others for gentrifying Spanish Harlem and Harlem. He just needs to go the Dominican Republic and retire in his under-taxed vacation home.

6. "Disabled" fits her perfectly.
I'm sure that's the word Rangel actually meant to say, but I like it a lot. Palin is disabled....mentally disabled. And I am not worried about the politically-correct police coming my way...they mean very little to me. Unfort. our society - esp. during elections has become too paranoid over which words to say because they might offend someone. The reality is, no matter what you say someone is probably going to be offend anyway, or take what you say the wrong way.

I so wished we had politicians who were straight-up kind of people and said things for what they were.

27. Her son is disabled
That's what I thought Rangel was referring to when I first heard about this. But one has to give Rangel some latitude because of his age. He clarified what he meant to say after he had time to think about it.

36. I don't think
Rangel meant to call Palin "disabled" -- I accidently miswrote that in my previous post. I think he slipped on his words. But as I mentioned earlier, I like his original choice of words for her. There are different types of disabilities and she clearly suffers from at least one of them.

And if the repugs jump all over him for his original comment - that's their problem as far as I'm concerned. Their Presidential nominee chose an imbecile as his running-mate that could very well become our next VP...and possibly our next President if fate gets any worse for us. Given the seriousness of what our country is facing and the disaster of letting Palin into our White House, a politician who is an idiot with little needed experience, and clearly a vengeful personality that crosses into her work, hurting Palins' or any of the repug's feelings is the least of my worries.

Can you imagine if McCain, let alone Palin, is able to get their hands on the Military Comm. Act of 2006 - a very dangerous, unconstitutional, and powerful bill signed into office by junior, what can happen? It's frightening. And if Palin and her disciples want to complain about Rangel's misuse of words....or anyone else's, they should take their own inventory of insulting and personal attacks on anyone who disagrees with them.

8. Freud slips of the tongue
He's probably right that Palin is disabled.

I am considered "disabled" by others because of my deafness. I am perfect able to think for myself, I drive, I work, I walk, do things like a normal person except hear. I don't feel like I am "disabled" yet I am according to others. So I say Palin is disabled because she cannot respect people's rights like getting her head into women's wombs, thinks she can see Russia from her home, thinks she is already the President of the United States, kills wolves and polar bears just to make more mooses and caribous to kill and other animals. She even says she hates cats, she's afraid of cats so she probably has killed kitties as well as puppies, has no respect for Wildlife, environment, goes around shoving down our throats her crazy beliefs, wants to ban books to control what we can read. Her mind is not working right. For some reason she gets by enough to become sportscaster, councilwoman, mayor, governor, now running for Veep. I know why...likes attract likes. Stupid people allow this to happen. They cannot see the real her, what she really is. It's like the movie "House" where a troll with big red lips keeps popping up, posing as Viet Nam vet's ex wife. Remember this movie? Played by William Katt.

OF COURSE, SHE IS DISABLED!

There is a difference between being wrong, and insisting that being wrong is right. And that you can fly up to Heaven and get advice to God (or GIVE it).

22. Socially disabled...
All neo-cons are socially disabled...they cannot see their own place, or that of others, in their society and therefore have little or no empathy. Poor choice of words on Rangel's part, though.

25. He did say that he meant "politically disabled"
dis·a·bled

–adjective
1. crippled; injured; incapacitated.

–noun
2. (used with a plural verb) persons who are crippled, injured, or incapacitated (usually prec. by the): Ramps have been installed at the entrances to accommodate the disabled.

Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1)
Based on the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, © Random House, Inc. 2006.

Politically disabled, yes, she is politically crippled, in that her foreign policy experience consists of being able to see Russia from her house (which is exactly what he said).

I realize it wasn't a productive comment and will be viewed as insensitive by the shrill right but nonetheless, I think he's right and I don't see how this is supposed to be insulting to the disabled.

So SARAH, is it 'verbage' or 'verbilage' we be talking about here?
