Obama on women and economy in Daytona Beach
Source: Orlando Sentinal

Looking to keep the presidential conversation focused on the economy and make inroads with women voters, Barack Obama is talking about both on his swing up the East Coast of Florida.

Obama appeared in Daytona Beach Saturday morning telling supporters at Bethune-Cookman University that he understood the economic worries of women because he had seen them first hand as the child of a single mother.

Women like his mother and grandmother, he said, "pour everything they’ve got into their kids" and "should be able to pay the bills and get ahead for a change." Obama said the fact that women still make less than men doing the same job is "an outrage" and vowed to change that should he be elected.

"This isn’t just an economic issue for millions of American families," he said. "It’s about our most fundamental values as a nation: that we treat people fairly, that we reward hard work, and there are no second class citizens in our workplaces."

5. Hear, hear!
This reminds of something Jon Stewart said to a guest some months back, about how the American economy is set up to reward investment rather than work. It's frustrating when you have to keep running faster and faster just to stay in the same place, and often you still fall behind.

6. Well I am ticked off, I live in Daytona Beach and I am signed up
on the Obama site but they never told me he was coming
here. I saw John Edwards speak here. When he was running with Kerry.
They e-mailed me special tickets to get in. Not a word
from the Obama campaign. I even campaigned. Hmmmm!! :eyes:
