Van Hollen attorney met with GOP officials before election suit
Edited on Sat Sep-20-08 02:22 PM by bobthedrummer
Source: Patrick Marley & Steven Walters Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel

"The lead Department of Justice attorney for Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen's lawsuit against the state's election authority met with Republican Party representatives about a week before filing the suit."

J.B. Van Hollen is the State of Wisconsin's AG, he is co-chair of the McCain 2008 campaign here. There is an effort of voter disfranchisement well underway here.

There is a wealth of RW GOP corruption related background here in Wisconsin but to keep this on topic here are a couple of related items.

Like most GOP AG's Van Hollen feels that the law does'nt apply to him.

"Van Hollen says conflict-of-interest rules don't apply to attorney general" by Mark Pitsch (Wisconsin State Journal 9-20-2008)

Van Hollen follows his DECIDER'S operatives plan to disfranchise Wisonsin voters

"State suit could affect 1 million voters" by Patrick Marley (Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel 9-11-2008)

Comments and suggestions are requested to help us out here in battleground Wisconsin.

1. Hopefully this will be taken up the way it has in Michigan.
How the hell can the man who is McCain's state co-chair be allowed to bring a suit like this?

This can't be allowed to continue; we can't allow them to drop a million people from the roles, and I hope the judge will see it the same way.

11. NO! Mellowed out? Let's just look at one of TT's business ventures Logistics Health Inc./LHI
Here's an archived thread that didn't thrive here-but needs reviewing since it involves a company that "won" a 5 year contract from the criminal BUSH/CHENEY administration to perform medical tests on National Guard members and returning active duty military even though LHI's bid was millions of $ OVER competitors. LHI is stacked with many former DoD officials that "retired" shortly after the Walter Reed outpatient scandal broke.

"Logistics Health Inc./LHI: A DU collaborative investigation thread" (started 10-29-2007)

"Another Walter Reed-Type Scandal"
http://www.motherjones.com/news/update/2008/09/another-walter-reed-scandal-medical-records.html

I could go on about the racist neocons that formed TT's disastrous PRIVATIZATION policies, the extreme RWer's based here, and a whole lot more but that would take us way off-topic. Tommy Thompson is far worse than Joe McCarthy in the context of how many people he has harmed and destroyed while PROFITING personally along with his criminal RW political network, Shiver

10. I don't get what they are trying to achieve since we can
register at the polls too. So if we get there and find out we're not on the list we can register right there and then...so what will this accomplish?

I did move in that time, but have voted consistantly since and always bring my latest fuel bill with me just in case. The first time after I moved (since I moved in Sept. I was afraid my change of address and registration hadn't been done on time)I did have to register at the polls and got a regular ballot, not a provisional...so what would be the point?

bring your last power bill or phone bill to prove your address and with identification to prove who you are you are good to go and can register at the polls.

65. The issue is that you may be forced to vote on a provisional ballot
if you have been removed from the registration rolls for whatever quirk they find as an excuse.

Absentee ballots are counted in this state but not provisionals unless they are needed to decide a race.

18. NATIONAL 'GUARANTEE YOUR VOTE' DAY
Please support NATIONAL GUARANTEE YOUR VOTE DAY ON October 1st. We are asking all bloggers, unions, church groups and organizations to either email, text or phone message their membership with a text that asks them to check on the status of their voter registration. Just because you think you can vote, doesn't mean you actually can, as tens of thousands are finding out when it is too late to do anything about it. By sending this out to your membership and then having those people send an alert, this could expotentially save a lot of voters who support Obama the heartache of not being able to vote.

27. Great idea!
I think you posted something about this "movement" a week or two ago. I passed the message along to a couple of progressive blogs, as suggested. I suggest that you also tell people to check out any i.d. requirements.

We're having a federal election in Canada too, and we have a new rule that requires voters to show i.d. and proof of address before they can vote. This isn't being advertised very well, and it hasn't been covered in the news so far. I'm worried as hell that many people will be turned away at the polls because they just don't know they need i.d. now. So all you Canadians out there, go to elections.ca to find out details about acceptable i.d., and then help spread the word.

24. No shit, this is screwed up.
And true.

We really fucked up our last AG election. The incumbent, Peg Lautenschlager, got a DUI but was reasonably popular anyway. The Democratic Governor, who had been AG until becoming Governor, didn't like Peg & ran one of his puppets against her in the Primary, using the DUI as the main excuse. His puppet won the primary, but couldn't carry the state, so we got ourselves stuck with this third-rate Blackwell in whiteface. Van Hollen is a tool of the Big-Money interests, and is a thoroughly nasty character with an MMPI profile that would look exactly like Sarah Palin's. All the same endearing traits.

62. Just as Katherine Harris, former FL Sec of State was Bush 2000 Campaign Co-Chair in FL ....
...while she also impeded counting Al Gore's votes by every way she could, not to mention coordinating with Jeb Bush to strip tens of thousands off the rolls with erroneous felon lists, before the election, courtesy of Choice Point.

2006

Here we are, eight years later, and the corrupt GOP marches on, stealing our votes, by planting their rabid operatives in positions rife with conflicts of interest; installing GOP-owned voting machinery; using proprietary software that never is examined; sending teams of GOP thugs to bang on doors of local election officials trying to count votes.

The utter spinelessness of Democrats in Congress to rectify this is abominable. Failure to address and pass legislation to correct it allowed Bush and the corrupt GOP to destroy our country. And destroyed it, they have.

Take away the rights of democratic voters in any way possible. (I think the entire Gonzales Justice Dept. is getting investigated over these tactics.)

As a voter in Wisconsin, this just tells me how out of touch and clueless Van Hollen is (not that I'd ever vote for him anyway). But these tactics were exposed months ago...how did he fall for this? He must be very stupid!

Good grief! Words simply fail me at this point. The guy is such an ideologue that he can't even see that filing a lawsuit at this point would be counter-productive? WOW!

We need to get to work, Wisconsinites! We've got a clueless ideologue at the helm in the Attorney General's office. Good grief, this is embarrassing!

So they put judges, State AGs, Federal Ag's and heads of Elections in some states.
I know they did it in Miss, I know they did it here in Al. and we know they did it in Fla.
Also in DC, Mo. NM, Ca. to some extent.
and prolly Texas of course.
And they had these positions packed for some time. just waiting to be used.

That's some game plan..

Whatever happened to the League of Women Voters and independent non-partisan state voting systems?

Given how close our last presidential election was, this would have given Wisconsin to Bush. Someone from the Obama camp or a private interest group better start running ads and sending mailers to let people know this bs is going on.

They know they aren't getting near the new registrations that the Democratic Party is getting, so they try this bs. This isn't dirty politics, it is a crime.
