McCain Adviser: BlackBerry comment was 'ill-timed' joke
Source: CNN's Peter Lanier

John McCain's economic adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin laughed off his now infamous BlackBerry comment on Sunday, and jokingly laid out his new campaign strategy....

... While Holtz-Eakin reiterated his point that McCain was involved with telecommunications advancements, the adviser claimed that his comment was nothing more than a bad joke.

"It was not just badly told, it was ill-timed," he laughed.

"But you know, these things happen.

1. The funny thing is that McCain's own campaign team is making this worse.
I didn't see it as a claim that McCain invented the Blackberry, but as a claim that he was instrumental in legislation that aided in the expansion of wireless services (like the Blackberry).

Why would his own campaign team agree with the "they said he invented the Blackberry" accusation and call it a bad joke instead of just clarifying the statement?

2. On the Republican side, "these things happen"
On the Democratic side, mistakes and misstatements are played on a continuous loop for days.

3. Joke my ass!
How many times have we heard them say "it was just a joke" when they get called out on something in this campaign. It wasn't a joke, it was just another LIE out of their poison-spewing mouths! They're always hoping to get even a few more votes for the ridiculous things they say.
