Women Protest Sarah Palin in Rochester
Source: RochesterHomePage.net

"Sarah Palin doesn't speak for me."

That's the message nearly 300 women in Rochester want to send to the Republican Party, who have nominated the Alaska governor for Vice President.

They gathered at Washington Square Park Saturday, carrying big signs that explains why she's not their Vice Presidential choice. The women were taking part in a project by "People for the American Way" which plans to make a national video showing women rallying against the Palin.

The women say they oppose Palin because she's a lifetime NRA member and she's against abortion and free choice. They say they support Senator Barack Obama and Joe Biden instead because they support women's rights.

4. Women need to unite AGAINST Palin
I like reading these stories. I think women need to demonstrate in huge numbers to show the MSM and the nation that we're have minds of our own. As a woman, I'm insulted by the Palin choice.

5. I think anti-Palin protesters really need to watch their language
because the "other side" is real good at twisting and turning things around and taking words out of context, and the whole bit

like this:

The women say they oppose Palin because she's a lifetime NRA member and she's against abortion and free choice.

I think we all know what this means, but Republicans for Palin will, as usual, twist the "against abortion" thing around to make it sound like Democrats are "for" abortion.

Such a small thing, yet the impact is huge

and all because of a choice of wording

Democrats, of course, aren't FOR abortion. What we are FOR (generally) is a woman's right to choose. I support a woman's right to choose even though I'm not technically FOR abortion.

And this is where the nutcases usually end up trying to turn the argument into something they think they can win....the issue of being "for or against" abortion...and the issue of "when does a fetus or embryo or zygote or twinkle in the eye = a human being"

We can argue those points till eternity and the issue won't be solved...the real issue is that we want choice, and choice is something people are entitled to and cannot (or should not) be something we have to fight for.

anyway....go Palin protesters!!!

7. But it doesn't sound like a direct quote from the women protesting -
it sounds more like the reporter's interpretation of the protestors' message!

If you went across to Leroy and then a straight shot down Route 19, that'd be us.

13. Ah yes! I know it well!
Thought that area was pretty red, though. Are you in the minority, politics wise?

14. Extremely so.
Two or three to one. We make up for it by being more stubborn and relentless. :) The local Republicans seem to be running low on steam, though. Fewer signs, fewer stickers, less enthusiasm. The rest of the world seems to finally be knocking on the door of the bubble 90% of this county lives in.

10. My Daughter was talking about this the other night
She is 13 years old and is adamant about abortion rights. She does not like McCain and Palin and has discussions on the bus about it. She said she is against them because they want to take away all abortions. My husband asked her "are you for abortion then" and she said," I am for the right for a woman to make that choice!" I am so proud!
