(AP chairman) Singleton: Many MediaNews Papers Leaning Toward Obama
Source: Editor & Publisher

When presidential endorsements by many of MediaNews Group's 54 daily papers are completed in the coming weeks, don’t be surprised if Barack Obama gets much of the support, according to CEO William Dean Singleton.

Speaking by phone Monday from his ranch in Granby, Colo. -- where he hosts an annual retreat for his editors, publishers and other newspaper leaders -- Singleton said chats with those who will decide the endorsements finds more liking Obama, at least at the moment.

"In talking to our editors, it appears many of them are leaning toward Obama," Singleton said. "But they have not made a decision yet. All of the papers are represented. I am hearing that the economy and health care are the big issues."

Singleton, a longtime supporter of the Bush family, says he remains personally undecided, a first for him. "I don't ever remember being undecided before. I have always leaned toward one of them early on," he says. "I am having trouble with this one." He favored Hillary Clinton over Obama during the Democratic primaries.

MediaNews papers include the Denver Post, San Jose Mercury News, Oakland Tribune, The Detroit News, St. Paul Pioneer Press, Los Angeles Daily News, Salt Lake Tribune and dozens of others.

6. He wanted you to read it wrong. It's a backhanded endorsement of McBush
This whole funny puke idea that they're going to pull former Hillary supporters over to Mcbush "I just can't decide. I wanted Hillary but McCain is so great that I'm thinking about going puke."

8. Not necessarily. Bushes are very close with Clintons now, and Poppy Bush would be in jail

still if Bill Clinton hadn't protected him throughout the 90s.

I believe Singleton AND the Bushes would NOT have minded another Clinton protecting another Bush from their crimes of office.

Robert Parry has a history lesson for ALL Dems about accountability and why the Truth Matters:

9. True that but don't you think that McPoopypants would have covered Shrub's ass too?
Don't you remember how Faux Snooze etc were pulling for Clinton in the primaries? Their stated objective was to have someone they thought would be easier to beat.

10. Nah - Clintons PROVED themselves to Bushes. McCain is actually only a recent convert
to the BFEE.

Besides, the Bushes depend on a certain group of Democrats to protect them from other Democrats and their inquiries. Lee hamilton, John Breaux, and Bill Clinton have been quite useful protecting BushInc from the 'left'.

11. True but it's not the Bushies that are really being protected
It's their backers, who clearly are more in bed with McBush than they would have been with Clinton.

12. Not in my view - Stephens, Dubai and Saudi royals, were all VERY cozy with both Bushes and Clintons
and I believe those folks are scrambling to assure McCain gets that THEY are more important to his presidency than any one of his professed 'principals' - whatever he has left, anyway. I think they know he's mercurial and a bit nutty and they don't want to have to depend on someone like that. Which is also why I see a lot of Bushies getting deeper into McCain's campaign now.

7. Singleton Is A Greedy Liar
Bullshit about him being undecided. He wants more deregulation so he can buy TV stations in his newspaper markets.
