Sources: Palin to Help Investigation She Requested
Source: ABC News

Attorneys for Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin met with a special investigator for the Alaska Personnel Board earlier today to broker her cooperation with the panel's own probe of the scandal now known as "Troopergate," according to sources close to the matter.

With help from the McCain-Palin campaign, the popular governor and GOP vice-presidential candidate has fought a separate investigation by the Republican-dominated Alaska state legislature into the scandal. The flap centers around allegations Palin used her power to pursue a personal vendetta against a state trooper who was once married to Palin's sister.

Lawyers hired by Palin and the McCain-Palin campaign met with Tim Petumenos, an Anchorage lawyer hired by the Personnel Board to investigate the matter, after Palin herself filed a formal complaint to the panel.

Initially, Palin had pledged cooperation with the legislature's investigation. She changed her position after joining the GOP ticket, claiming that probe was politically biased and that the legislature lacked constitutional authority to investigate her. She argued the proper venue was the three-member Personnel Board -- part of the executive branch -- and filed a complaint against herself, saying she "welcomed" its investigation.

All three of the board's current members were originally appointed by Alaska's previous governor, Frank Murkowski; one has since been re-appointed by Palin.

3. misleading headline
She is NOT cooperating with the legislative investigation. Here is a key line from the article:

"Their goal has been to obstruct the legislative investigation," said Alaska State Rep. Les Gara, D-Anchorage. "The whole thing has been aimed to obstruct until after the election." The legislative probe is expected to wrap up in mid-October; Gara said he expected the Personnel Board investigation would not release findings until after the election.

6. Yes, of course
They want to assist the investigation being conducted by the Personnel Board, which is accountable to (owned by?) the Governor, while blocking the investigation by the Legislative Council, which is not. Now what sort of conclusions do you think this Personnel Board might reach, and will they even bother to issue a finding before 11/4?

Meanwhile, the McCain people have effectively torpedoed the efforts of the Legislative Council, who ought to be looking into some sort of cease and desist action against the McCain campaign for their direct intervention and usurpation of authority in the affairs of the state of Alaska.

8. Palin lawyer meets with investigator in probe
Edited on Mon Sep-22-08 10:22 PM by Mark E. Smith
Source: Associated Press

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Less than a week after balking at the Alaska Legislature's
investigation into her alleged abuse of power, Gov. Sarah Palin on Monday indicated
she will cooperate with a separate probe run by people she can fire.

An attorney for the GOP vice presidential nominee met with an investigator for the
state Personnel Board to discuss sharing documents and schedule witness interviews,
McCain spokeswomen Meg Stapleton said. Neither she nor McCain spokesman Ed
O'Callaghan had further details about the meeting and said they did not know if the
governor or her husband would be interviewed.

Palin attorney Thomas Van Flein said in an e-mail that information on who will be
interviewed and when will be known on Tuesday. He said additional coordination
meetings with the investigator, Anchorage attorney Timothy Petumenos, are likely.

After that, however, Petumenos wants to keep the progress of the investigation
confidential and the campaign will not have any further comment, McCain spokesman
Taylor Griffin said.

Nice that Queen Sarah can decide which investigation she will cooperate with. And
it is always convenient when that investigation is run by the help.

Palin 'ready to cooperate' in firing probe, lawyer says
CNN - 9/23/08 updated 2 hours, 53 minutes ago

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's lawyer met Monday with the independent counsel hired by the state to discuss the investigation into Palin's firing of Alaska's public safety commissioner, campaign officials said.

Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee, has been battling allegations she fired Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan for improper reasons in July.

Palin's attorney, Thomas Van Flein, met with special counsel Timothy Petumenos to discuss documents and witness interviews, campaign spokeswoman Meg Stapleton said.

Stapleton was asked whether Palin would agree to be interviewed by the special counsel. "If necessary and Mr. Petumenos wants it, absolutely," Stapleton replied.

"We believe and expect Mr. Petumenos has demonstrated that he is fair and impartial and is searching for the truth and facts behind Monegan's reassignment," Stapleton said. "The governor stands ready to cooperate."

at least long enough to keep it off the headlines until after the VP debates

wonder if Palin will be under oath and transcripts made of the "interview" - probably not

from what I've been hearing on Thom Hartman show - mccain campaign is acting like storm troopers in alaska, big clamp down, anyone asking questions is given a phone number to the MCCAIN campaign headquarters, reporters have been threatened, state employes have been told to keep their mouths shut

a donation of $1000 and someone making a bad decision on a land deal is a national security issue and needs to have a Congressional investigation and a full impeachment trial, resulting in the trial over a blo**ob ...

21. Looks Like....
.... Alaskan state government is being infiltrated by some kind of political/religious cult, with the Palins as "normal" appearing First Family to deflect criticism.... and spread the "word".
Scary stuff. Sarah Palin has those hard eyes of a true fanatical believer... cult-like in way too many ways for me to be comfortable with as Vice or Prez.
Watch your backs, Alaskans.
