Chattanooga: UT student not indicted in Palin e-mail hacking case
Source: timesfreepress.com

A federal grand jury in Chattanooga ended its session around lunch time today without indicting a University of Tennessee student who authorities believe may have hacked into vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s personal e-mail account.

Three students arrived at the federal courthouse on Georgia Avenue at about 8:45 a.m. today to provide testimony about UT student David Kernell’s activities. The students did not provide their names and did not answer questions about the case. An attorney with them declined to comment as well.

The students were allowed to leave the court house secretively through the back door, where members of the public generally are not allowed.

FBI agents from Knoxville exited the front doors of the court house at about 10 a.m., also declining to comment about any aspect of the case.

2. Bigger question is why a Governor is using an unsecured e-mail network
to conduct official business. Is it against the law to try various passwords in an e-mail account not yours?

4. Yes it is unlawful and the American people are so computer ignorant
that most do not understand just how reckless it is for someone to be using Yahoo! or Google to transmit private and/or privileged communication. A majority of Americans dont follow any sort of good computer practices which is why organized crime has a huge arsenal of infected computers sending out their SPAM and at the ready for DOS attacks.

As someone 'enlightened' about computer security, it drives me crazy that the 'headline' of this story was some 'hacker' and not the Yahoo! usage. Imagine if someone were discussing policy decisions and upcoming laws. They could have been logging into that account and placing stock trades based on 'inside information'.

5. Good point.
Or Sarah could be giving out this password info to her friends so they could log on to see what was being discussed.

12. Her using an unsecured email network for
official business has never been addressed. It's all been about the hack - not the true story.

13. Don't forget that the * administration was using unsecured
emails for correspondance too. This is the same behavior.

11. So it turns out that this kid wasn't the hacker after all? The press had him convicted.
