Young voters, solidly behind Obama, registering in droves
Source: The Arizona Republic

A new national poll says young adults age 18 to 29 overwhelmingly prefer Sen. Barack Obama over Sen. John McCain in the race for the White House.

Obama leads McCain 56 percent to 29 percent with 13 percent undecided and the remaining 2 percent supporting third-party candidates Ralph Nader and Bob Barr.

The Washington, D.C.-based Rock the Vote, a political-advocacy group, conducted the random telephone poll of 500 young people shortly after the Republican National Convention ended on Sept. 4. The poll had a 4 percentage-point margin of error.

The survey also indicates that young adults could register to vote in record numbers this year.

Rock the Vote officials say that 1.6 million people have downloaded voter-registration forms from the group's Web site, up from 1 million during the 2004 presidential election. It's unknown, however, how many people who download forms will follow through and register. Eighty-six percent of those polled said they were likely to vote in the presidential election.

2. FIRST TIME VOTERS, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR VOTE WILL COUNT
The Repukes are trying as hard, they DON'T WANT YOUR VOTE TO COUNT.

All states have different requirements for ID, etc....notice in FL your ID needs A SIGNATURE ON IT or they will demand a SECOND PHOTO ID.

IT'S UP TO EVERYONE TO BE INFORMED AND MAKE SURE THEY CANNOT STEAL YOUR VOTE! ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT FOR THE STUDENT VOTE, BE AWARE YOUR ADDRESS HAS TO MATCH YOUR CURRENT (SCHOOL) ADDRESS OR YOUR PERMANENT (PARENTS) ADDRESS. IF YOU ARE CONFUSED ABOUT THIS GET AN ABSENTEE BALLOT.

3. True. It's one thing to register...
now you need to make absolutely sure that your registration doesn't have any problems that could cause the GOP to try to make your registration invalid.

5. Here in Chicago, the Democratic machine used to caravan people to the polls
Vans, personal vehicles, whatever. Don't know if it's still done, but it's an eminently practical idea.
These young people need to do more than register. They need to VOTE. I hope they will, expect they will, but it'd be nice if there was an organized effort.

4. I know I had great expectations in 2004 and was very disappointed
with the very dismal showing from younger voters. Apparently back then it was all talk. I hope this year they actually follow through..
