Warner Leads Gilmore by 30 Points, Poll Finds (Va. Senate)

Former Virginia governor James S. Gilmore III (R) has not gained any traction for his U.S. Senate campaign against Democrat Mark R. Warner during the past year, adding to Democratic hopes that the party will have two Virginia senators next year for the first time since 1970, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

2. this race was over before it ever began
Warner has such support in VA, but that's only part of it. He has so many wide reaching connections in the business world that fund raising hasn't been a concern at all.

4. People here still remember the disaster that was Gilmore's term as governor.
He campaigned on basically one issue: eliminating Virginia personal property tax on cars, which was a disaster financially for the state.

5. Gilmore also failed as RNC chair
After he was out of office, Bush et al. made him chair of the RNC. He lasted all of 6 mos before they booted him back to his Richmond law firm. Too incompetent even for the Republicans!
