Palin says another Great Depression is possible

Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin says the United States could be headed for another Great Depression if Congress doesn't act on the financial crisis.

Palin's comments came in an interview Wednesday with "CBS Evening News" anchor Katie Couric.

27. She passed Macroeconomics in college. With a 'D'.
But that's OK. Who cares if she can barely pass an economics class that most college football players take to have an easy course?

At least John McCain, who admits he doesn't know much about economics, including how many houses he owns, won't be there to help her out.

44. I would be really surprised if she even took a macroeconomics course......
Does a Journalism degree usually require it? And since she has a history of sporadic attendance--was it 6 schools in 5 years or something??--she doesn't really strike me as the kind of motivated and focused student who might want to tackle a "rigorous" economics course as a means of making her resume look better come job-interview time.

Why haven't we heard any of her former professors exclaiming what a dedicated and brilliant student she was? Students like Sarah Palin take the least-challenging courses they can find in order to fulfill the bare-minimum requirements of the degree program.

So I suspect even the "D in Macroeconomics" is a deliberate lie in a long string of deliberate lies and pandering undertaken by this woman of little substance and and win-at-any-cost morality.

37. Naomi Klein calls it the "Shock Doctrine"
http://www.naomiklein.org/shock-doctrine

Disaster Capitalism in Action

Now is the Time to Resist Wall Street's Shock Doctrine
Naomi Klein, Huffington Post, September 22, 2008

I wrote The Shock Doctrine in the hopes that it would make us all better prepared for the next big shock. Well, that shock has certainly arrived, along with gloves-off attempts to use it to push through radical pro-corporate policies (which of course will further enrich the very players who created the market crisis in the first place...).

The best summary of how the right plans to use the economic crisis to push through their policy wish list comes from Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich. On Sunday, Gingrich laid out 18 policy prescriptions for Congress to take in order to "return to a Reagan-Thatcher policy of economic growth through fundamental reforms." In the midst of this economic crisis, he is actually demanding the repeal of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, which would lead to further deregulation of the financial industry. Gingrich is also calling for reforming the education system to allow "competition" (a.k.a. vouchers), strengthening border enforcement, cutting corporate taxes and his signature move: allowing offshore drilling.

69. Yes, as deep chasm of dark depression... that I'll be in come November
if Obama/Biden dont' win.

And yes! Gov. Palin IS an economic expert...
she was a mayor, with responsibilities,
she cut the budget of her town,
even cut rape kit expenses.
She KNOWS how to run a country...

(all this makes me depressed even now...
How could 'she' have happened to us?)

Edited on Wed Sep-24-08 02:47 PM by cvoogt
so she's an economic expert now? From the state that lives off of federal welfare?
Fictional interview;

Palin: "... another Great Depression is possible ... and desirable. Who wants a bad depression?"
Reporter to Palin: "Do you support women's suffrage?"
Palin: "Absolutely not. I do not think women should suffer."
Reporter: "But while you were mayor, Wasilla rape victims were charged for their rape kits. How does that compute?"
Palin: "Taxpayers should suffer less than rape victims. Small government is more important than actual people."

82. And we trust her knowledge on this, why?
Didn't I just read that the Bushies have had this plan for months? "Fratto insisted that the plan was not slapped together and had been drawn up as a contingency over previous months and weeks by administration officials. He acknowledged lawmakers were getting only days to peruse it, but he said this should be enough."

On past performance, neither a lack of intelligence nor overt
senility prevent the designated person from becoming president.

When that president is the oldest one in your history and his
VP willingly embraces the support of suicidal end-time cults,
you had better realise that she is probably your future president.

The biggest chance you have of avoiding this is to ensure that
she (and all of her incompetent, incoherent & downright nutty
opinions) get LOTS of publicity before the election as even the
Rove machine couldn't steal an election if you can shake loose
the 20%ers.

93. I believe she had no idea at all what the hell she was saying. She was parroting words that
were given to her, and she had no basic understanding of them...much like when ABBA sang in English. They just learned the words phonetically.

97. ABBA did NOT sing English phonetically!
I helped in writing a book about ABBA, so I know fact from fiction.

All four spoke English, and understood their songs perfectly...after all, they did write all of them!

Frida, Bjorn, and Agnetha also spoke German. Frida learned it because her father was German, Bjorn learned it because he wanted to be able to do interviews in German, and Agnetha learned it because she had a solo career AND a boyfriend in Germany in the 1960's. Frida also spoke French.

BTW, ABBA's lyrics weren't "handed to them". Bjorn wrote most of ABBA's lyrics, and only in the earliest days of their career he co-wrote them with ABBA's manager Stig Anderson.

I know you meant well, but please do not insult intelligent, liberal people like ABBA, by comparing them to Sarah Palin. To this day, they're our allies in fighting against global warming and theocracy. Bjorn's recent interviews, in which he discusses the threat of religious fanaticism, make for very interesting reading.

98. Thanks for the info. I certainly meant no insult to ABBA.
I am glad to know that they spoke English and understood the songs they sang.

I saw "Mama Mia" on Broadway, and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

107. Disaster capitalists would LOVE America's economy to fail.
Think of the opportunities for privatization at the social and financial levels. They were already after Social Security, for months and months...

I'm certain that they already have been thinking about it. Perhaps even acting to create it, considering the profit-through-destruction activities that have been occuring for the last eight or more years.
