McCain: "We are running out of time"
Source: MSNBC

NEW YORK -- With mixed signals coming out of Capitol Hill on the progress of negotiations over the bailout legislation, McCain addressed the Clinton Global Initiative this morning and laid out a bipartisan rationale for his return to Washington.

“I cannot carry on a campaign as though this dangerous situation had not occurred, or as though a solution were at hand, which it clearly is not,” McCain said of the progress in Congress. “With so much on the line, for America and the world, the debate that matters most right now is taking place in the United States Capitol -- and I intend to join it. Senator Obama is doing the same. America should be proud of the bipartisanship that we are seeing.”

Some reports indicate that Democrats and Republicans are on the verge of agreement on the legislation, but this morning McCain asserted that "it has become clear that no consensus has developed to support the Administration's proposal."

"I do not believe that the plan on the table will pass as it currently stands," he added, "And obviously we are running out of time."

McCain urged quick action on the solution to the financial meltdown, but also warned of the consequences of a rush to judgment. “For the Congress, this is one of those moments in history when poor decisions, made in haste, could turn a crisis into a far-reaching disaster,” he said. “If we do not act, credit will dry up, with grave consequences for workers and business across the American economy and beyond.”

25. supply an addict their drug of choice (money) and they will go take a hit
immediately - this whole admins 7years have been addict behavior with addict needs and the congress have been very good enablers - they seem to be intent on that again - if they pass ANY bill under this admin they have again feed the addict - wait for the next president - this is outrageous - pork filled bill is still a drug for the addicts - stop - we need an intervention - no more money - that is their drug of choice

10. Credit will "dry up"? Moronic.
Credit is trust. Credit will be reevaluated, shuffled, tossed & turned, removed, and reinstated. The current system will change. That's a good thing.

What happened to "no big government", Republicans?

18. Effin LIAR..Since when is Mccane concerned about the American workers??
..."with grave consequences for workers and business across the American economy and beyond.”

---------
Covering something up..Like a past due notice on a mortage payment, I want to know who gets this $700 billion? What Country could we owe a $700 billion payment to by the end of the week..
What's REALLY at stake if Bush doesn't make the payment?
And WHEN's the next one due?
------------------------------------

They aren't doing this for the love & concern of the American worker or small
businessman OR the homeowners.

Pakistan???
Who do we owe $700 billion to?

21. As Chuck Todd said yesterday:
It's the REPUBLICANS who are refusing to work on the plan unless they get no-accountability for the bailed-out firms. Democrats are moving ahead with a sane, balanced proposal.

And, Johnny Mac: we have enough votes to get our plan passed. So suck it. It'll be in final form before you even set foot in the Senate today. Coward.

already stated them, though? "Time's running out fast.... but, but... we must get it right. Speed is of the essence.... but, but, if we get it wrong, it'll be more trouble..." (Not verbatim, but near enough). A massive contribution to the debate. Not. Someone tell him what to say.

27. McLame also states, "No earmarks" should be added to the plan. The whole damn thing is an earmark
to the portfolios of the Rich and Ignorant. Like Paulson and his 500 million. Now where was his money invested in a blind trust? And what was the next company set to fail before this bailout scheme?

I think he meant no earmarks to the small donors. The "little people" can wait for that favorite fabled Republican economic panacea for the people

Trickle Down.

Raise your hand if you think you've been trickled on enough.

28. If he's in such a hurry to get to DC
to "fix" the crisis, why the hell is he speaking at the Clinton shindig? Shouldn't he be tear-assing to DC about right now? I mean, according to Letterman, McCain was boarding a plane last night for the Capital...where does he find the time for all this do gooding stuff?
He couldn't be making political hay out of this impending "depression" could he?

31. Hurry! Hurry!!!!
Whenever one hears that from the Bush Administration, we know from experience that not all is as it seems. We had to rush the Patriot Act. We had to rush into Iraq. They tried to rush us into putting SS in the stock market....but the "quick like a bunny" panic attacks had worn a little thin by then. Now they are worn out. We know things never go back and "get fixed".

And McCain's act of desperation "I don't have time to campaign! Here I come to save the daaaaaay!" isn't sinking in either. Like Obama says "A president may have to do 2 things at once". If McCain cannot campaign and do his Senate job at the same time....and he has no special powers in the Senate.... then how's he gonna be president? We've already got one Repug President on vacation all the time because he can't do the work, we don't need another.

This is pure theatre....bad theatre from McCain. He's a coward who doesn't want to debate until this crisis his party facilitated is "over" and they've got their money.

This election is a no-brainer! There's just no contest. The only reason to vote for McCain is to vote AGAINST the Dem and the black man. Period. All other rationals are merely excuses.

40. "I cannot carry out a campaign while". For God's sake we are 40
days from our election. The continuation of our government in a crisis is one of the most important issues of today. He wants us to put the campaign for our next leader on hold while he goes to Washington to take part in the discussion of the bailout but he stays in NY after he says this to have an interview with Katie. Further since he has not voted on any bill for months I am sure that the congress can continue to work without him. He knows nothing about economics so what is he going to do to halt this crisis? Better we continue on the path to electing our next president so we can come to real grips with this problem.

What if FDR has said this in 1930? It is an idiot statement.

42. What is this "we" stuff?
McCain and his cronies are running out time, but "we"? I'm not running out of time. As near as I can figure, this whole disaster doesn't mean a thing to me, except insofar as they manage to waste even greater quantities of my tax money on useless political dramas. Nobody is going to bail me out, or anybody like me.
