McCain campaign won't commit to debate on Friday
Source: Yahoo news

WASHINGTON - John McCain's campaign is welcoming news of an agreement in principle between congressional Republicans and Democrats on a bailout of the financial industry.

But the Republican isn't yet ready to say he will attend the presidential candidates' first scheduled debate on Friday.

McCain spokesman Brian Rogers says: "There's no deal until there's a deal."

He says McCain is optimistic an agreement between Congress and the Bush administration will be completed but that the afternoon developments had not changed his plans not to debate.

4. Rogers has the "deal" thing backwards
there already is a deal, which McCain is bound to until Obama agrees to let him out.

21. Speaking of a McCombover
He really reminds me of a Tim Conway character with that white combover.

And why does the media rarely show his total baldness in back?

18. Interesting you should ask that....
From an article discussed in another thread:

But there were fresh signs of trouble in the House Republican Caucus. A group of GOP lawmakers circulated an alternative designed to attract private capital back into the credit markets with less government intrusion.

Under the proposal, the government would provide insurance to companies that agree to buy frozen assets, rather than purchase them directly as envisioned under the administration’s plan. The firms would have to pay insurance premiums to the Treasury Department for the coverage.

“The taxpayers haven’t done anything wrong,” said Rep Eric Cantor, R-Va., adding that rather than require them to bear the cost of the bailout, the alternative “pretty much puts the burden on Wall Street over time.”

Rep. John A. Boehner, R-Ohio, the minority leader, was huddling with McCain on the rescue. Earlier, asked whether the GOP presidential nominee could corral restive Republicans to support the plan, Boehner said, “Who knows?”

postpone the agreement so he can have cover for not showing up to the debates......what a chickenshit coward - POW war hero or not!

on edit: he should have forgone his interview with Couric last night (in which he only embarrassed himself) and flown to DC as told Letterman. he might have been able to get to the republican leadership in time to stop them from comming to agreement.....so much for campaign suspension! LOL

19. You know what they could do?
Get one of those standee, life sized image, (like the ones they have of Star Wars characters) of Grampy McSame.

Then they could have a recorded track of Grampy McSame's talking points which they could play when it would have been Grampy's turn to respond.

It wouldn't be that different. The standee's cardboard, so is Grampy, and his whole stick always sounds pre-recorded any way.

Problem solved.

20. i think that...
McCain was actually for the debate before he was against it. Yet another flip-flop. The truth is that the man is scared sh*tless of debating Obama, and that fact is so transparent that even Fox is having a hard time spinning that one.

A guy sent in an email to CNN, about how the next pres. needs to be a multi-tasker. Totally agree.

I have been REALLY looking forward to this debate. I've literally been marking off the days on the calendar. John McCain BETTER show up.
