McCain camp prays for Palin wedding
Edited on Sat Sep-27-08 07:53 PM by BlueJessamine
Source: Times.co.uk

In an election campaign notable for its surprises, Sarah Palin, the Republican vice- presidential candidate, may be about to spring a new one — the wedding of her pregnant teenage daughter to her ice-hockey-playing fiancé before the November 4 election.

Inside John McCain’s campaign the expectation is growing that there will be a popularity boosting pre-election wedding in Alaska between Bristol Palin, 17, and Levi Johnston, 18, her schoolmate and father of her baby. “It would be fantastic,” said a McCain insider. “You would have every TV camera there. The entire country would be watching. It would shut down the race for a week.”

There is already some urgency to the wedding as Bristol, who is six months pregnant, may not want to walk down the aisle too close to her date of delivery. She turns 18 on October 18, a respectable age for a bride — and the same age as Barack Obama’s pregnant mother when she married his Kenyan father. The Democrat has already declared Bristol’s private life off-limits as far as his campaign is concerned.

The selection of Palin, 44, the moose-hunting governor of Alaska, as his running mate was one of McCain’s biggest gambles. It paid off handsomely at first, but she could benefit from a fresh injection of homespun authenticity, the hallmark of her style, provided by her daughter’s wedding after appearing out of depth away from her home state.

Like the supposedly "suspended" campaign, this will be seen as just another political stunt by McCain.

I feel very sorry for these two teens.

"...she could benefit from a fresh injection of homespun authenticity..."

Ya mean she hasn't spun enough to this point?

So, Palin's lies are 'homespun authenticity?'

If she spins any more authenticity, an addition to the lexicon will be required.

It's all like just, whacky, ya know?

It would be as sick, cynical and desperate as timing of the execution of Saddam during the last eleciton. And it would be obvious that it wasn't the kids' idea. Why make the situation worse by forcing them into marriage?

the rock on her hand which he probably gave him to put on her hand when he met him at the airport because he wasn't there..they sent the private jet to pick him up..remember how uncomfortable Levi looked sitting there w/ Bristol..no way did he want to be there..The 1st time the reporters went to his home, his mom didn't want to give much info..then all of a sudden, Levi appears..you can bet there was heavy pressure applied there, or else..

And even if they do get married, Obama will continue to campaign. McCain is going to say that the shotgun wedding of the daughter of his unqualified running mate is more important than his campaign??

Yeah, right.

saw on the news last nite about how they slammed Jamie Lynn being pregnant and how they're treating Palin's dgt differently..the news commentators stood up for Jamie Lynn and said that once Palin threw her hat into the circle, they're treated as celebrities also, so Palin will be on a witch-hunt for all the media now..Palin should get out now before the water deepens and take care of her family, and yet dragging the family around for photo-ops is beyond disgraceful.

11. The McCain campaign is divided over how to handle Palin’s appearances,
which have been so limited and over-rehearsed that...a CNN anchor, accused (them) of sexism. “Stop treating Sarah Palin like she is a delicate flower who will wilt at any moment,” she said. “If she were a man, would we be putting up with this?...Would she be coddled this way, cloistered this way? I don’t think so.”

I don't agree. Any man who came across like that teen beauty contestant would be also be so cloistered. I don't think it's a sexism issue at all, but an competence/credibility issue.

The sun is shining, the snow is thin,
The spruce and pine trees sway.
I've never seen such a day, But the baby bump starting to show
I don't think we can wait much more.

I'm dreaming of a white wedding,
Just like my own I faked before,
When my lipstick glistened
And Bristol listened,
and heard church bells in the snow.

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas,
With every wedding card I write,
Though my SIL, Tod, isn't too bright,
still I hope, the baby turns up white.

48. the opposite is true: they don't want a shot-gun wedding photo/headline
Imagine the fun the National Enquirer editors with have with this one.
The swirling helicopters, the paparrazzi hiding in the bushes just wating to capitalize on a photo that shows a VERY pregnant Bristol passionately kissing (gasp, a sin!) the ne'er do-good redneck boyfriend, while the VP-wannabe smiles approvingly.

I can see it now: "Beauty queen governor parties hearty at her pregnant teen's shotgun nuptials."

This could easily backfire. The photos would be forever used in every "values" debate/election from now to eternity. Every woman who has a daughter knows this scenario well -- as a recurring nightmare to be avoided at all costs.

I say bring it on.

Edited on Sat Sep-27-08 11:03 PM by IndianaGreen
Or will McCain use some of his gambling winnings?

55. And I pray for an Obama Tsunami
on election day. Wash the ex-Navy trash out to sea. Or at least back to the Senate Chamber where he belongs.

59. At this point, I think McCain just wants the
whole campaign over. "It would shut down the race for a week." Economic crisis, Alaskan shotgun wedding. What's next - "McCain, concerned over energy crisis, decides to change all the light bulbs in his houses. Suspends campaign for a week."

78. Better still -- have the wedding DURING the debate!
Might as well -- Ms. Mooseburger hasn't had anything new to say since the convention.

Senator Biden gets two minutes to outline his position. Moderator poses the same question to Gov. Clueless.

After she's outlined everything she knows about the subject, spend the next 1:55 on the wedding.

Back and forth, back and forth.

BOFFO ratings, I tell ya!

And if we can only arrange for Bristol to go into labor during the last half-hour, we're looking at a 65% share EASY!

with Levi, Todd and alcohol all mixed together, I'm sure this has the makings of a future Cops episode.

68. Imagine Levi having to call Sarah Palin
MOM!

Forced shotgun wedding, like the closing scene from the music video from the Georgia Satellites "Keep your hands to yourself."

Sick, sick, sick.

she plays with her children's lives and she thinks she's gonna play with our whole country.

This is one messed up woman.Didn't think there could be anyone worse than Dubya, but by god, McCain found one!

...and yeah, I feel real bad for ALL her kids.(Wasn't there a new baby in the mix somewhere? Wonder what happened to that poor little soul....)

87. so... who's paying for the health insurance now?
After Oct 18, will Bristol Palin still be listed as a dependent on her mother's tax-payer supported health insurance? Isn't that the couple's own problem now?
