Student Democrats unite vs. president
It's the first time Daniel Burke has actively campaigned for a politician.

The 21-year-old Colby College sophomore from Vassalboro said he joined the Colby Democrats -- a student group on campus -- and has been campaigning for John Kerry. He wants to see George W. Bush removed from office.

He said living in Maine and seeing his friends and neighbors lose their jobs when businesses move to other countries has made him more aware of the nation's failing economy.

"Bush is doing some really bad things to this country, and it's going to hurt us in the long run," Viles said Friday.

1. Student power
College students have the ability to decide the outcome of the 2004 election. Young people have more at stake in this (their lives vs the bush investments) than older folks like myself. Students are able to register friends on campus, as well as in their "home" communities. They can take a leadership role. They can again become the conscience of America, and awaken the dorment conscience of their parents, aunts, and uncles, who had once been the hippies and activists that fought for social justice. America needs the younger generation like it never has before!

2. This is why I have been making a point to go to the colleges
I have spent hours at voter registration drives at the local colleges. We have been on TV, we have even had people switch parties. Although I have only signed up 21 people to vote I have talked to hundreds on the issues. We have gotten information to the poli sci professors and they have incorporated it into their lectures. We do have the power, it is just a mater of do we have the desire, time and energy? The day you stop fighting for what is important is the day you start dying! As our own William Rivers Pitt says in his book " The greatest Sedition is Silence" We the people, that means you.

And we are shouting...it seems into the wind. There are many Americans protesting, writing letters, etc. We are not sitting back as one would assume. I'm spending time on many issues...campaign, voting, human rights, enviornment. President Bush is not only costing me more tax money but more much time and energy fighting his policies.

They can't cover it all up with tyranny. People will find out. Lincoln stated,"You can fool some of the people some of the time; but not all of the people all of the time". Lincoln was a corporate railroad lawyer and President...so he should know.

I'm trying to get a Democratic student group to set up a group in a Republican area college. Democratic student groups should be trying to do this all over the country.

If the campus newspaper won't print information about Democratic student meetings, etc., pass out leaflets, announcements, etc.
