Decision made after U.S. assured Pyongyang will allow nuke inspections

The Bush administration plans to remove North Korea from a terrorism blacklist on Saturday after getting assurances the Stalinist nation has agreed to a plan to inspect its nuclear facilities, The Associated Press has learned.

Diplomats briefed on the matter said President Bush signed off on the move on Friday in a bid to salvage a faltering disarmament accord aimed at getting North Korea to abandon atomic weapons. But they say North Korea will be put back on the list if it doesn't comply with the inspections.

The diplomats spoke on condition of anonymity because the State Department has not yet announced the step. It comes as North Korea moves to restart a disabled nuclear reactor and takes other actions that threaten the agreement.

1. Hm, maybe this is where Bush is going to spend the $100B "discretionary" bailout funds he was given
That would buy him a bit of influence in NK.

3. Wow. We had inspections 8 years ago
Great progress there Bush. Not that I believe it's anything more than a political stunt anyway.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The administration of U.S. President George W. Bush plans to remove North Korea from a terrorism blacklist on Saturday after getting assurances the nation has agreed to a plan to inspect its nuclear facilities, The Associated Press has learned.

Bush signed off on the move on Friday in a bid to salvage a faltering accord aimed at getting the North to abandon atomic weapons, according to diplomats briefed on the matter.

The removal is provisional and North Korea will be put back on the State Department's "state sponsors of terrorism" list if it doesn't comply with the inspections, they said. The diplomats spoke on condition of anonymity because the administration has not yet announced the step.

The expected delisting comes as North Korea moves to restart a disabled nuclear reactor and takes other provocative actions, including expelling U.N. inspectors and test firing missiles, that have heightened tensions and threaten the shaky disarmament agreement.

7. Bush invented the concept Neutered Mad Dog foreign policy.
It's straight forward: Attack or support attacks on countries which are in the process of developing nuclear weapons. but once they actually have nuclear weapons, back the fuck off. Really.

8. the obama doctrine is already taking hold
""Republican presidential candidate John McCain said in a statement he would not support the step unless it is clear North Korea is serious about disarmament and will accept intrusive inspections of its nuclear sites.""

north korea should invite mccain as a pow. he can
spent the next 4 years there and become another hero of some sort.

9. U.S. removes N. Korea from terror list
The Bush administration removed North Korea from a terrorism blacklist Saturday after the communist country agreed to all U.S. nuclear inspection demands, the Associated Press reported.

North Korea will allow atomic experts to take samples and conduct forensic tests at all of the North's declared nuclear facilities and undeclared sites on mutual consent, a U.S. official said. The country will allow experts to verify that it has told the truth about transfers of nuclear technology and an alleged uranium program, the official said.

Diplomats briefed on the matter said President Bush signed off on the move on Friday in a bid to salvage a faltering disarmament accord aimed at getting North Korea to abandon atomic weapons. But they say North Korea will be put back on the list if it doesn't comply with the inspections.

(snip)
Critics: Reward for bad behavior
But opponents of the deal, mainly conservative hawks in and out of the administration, say removing the North from the terrorism list now would be a reward for bad behavior from a country that cannot be trusted.
