GOP's Christopher Buckley backs Obama
Source: UPI

WASHINGTON, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- The son of the late U.S. conservative icon William F. Buckley says he's voting for Democratic U.S. presidential nominee Barack Obama.

Christopher Buckley, a staunch Republican and columnist for the conservative National Review magazine, revealed Friday that for the first time in his life he will vote for a Democrat for president next month, CNN reported.

"It's a good thing my dear old mum and pup (sic) are no longer alive," Buckley wrote on the Web site The Daily Beast. "They'd cut off my allowance."

Buckley said Obama, a U.S. senator from Illinois, "has in him -- I think, despite his sometimes airy-fairy 'We are the people we have been waiting for' silly rhetoric -- the potential to be a good, perhaps even great leader. He is, it seems clear enough, what the historical moment seems to be calling for."

16. So what? It is an important story.
Many of us did not see it then, and many of us do not spend any time with the MSM.

Save for this 'inappropriate' post I certainty would not have known of it.

It is more important, I think, that this be seen, than that it strictly meet LBN criteria.

The LBN police are free to disagree.

2. Put this in an ad
And while I'm at it, I still want Colin Powell's endorsement. He said he would after the debates, so here's hoping.

11. By "him" do you mean Collin?
Don't think anything happened to him. That is who he really is, and only a few times has his true self been shown to the public- WMD speech to the UN, sticking up for Stevens, and their is a lot of questions about his involvement in the My Lai massacre coverup.

3. wow, this is the first i heard of this!
What with all the other BS flying around, it is hard to see the positive stories at times.

This is so indicative of WHO is Barack Obama?

He is a unifier, he is a true leader, he has an important place in our history...
what's so funny about the quote is the "airy fairy" line. Conservatives don't wanna be tree huggin peace lovin liberals, but they stil know a good visionary and leader when they see it!

yay!

9. Actually they would join their son...
There are a growing number of conservatives who reject this "new" Republican Party and reject the rhetoric and absolutely reject the obvious position by a Republican candidate who claims to be a conservative that the way to the future is to take the same path we are on which so far has led us into a disastrous war in two countries we illegally invaded and now occupy and bringing not only our economy but the world economy to the brink of collapse. Most suspect Nancy Reagan will not pull her endorsement but will possibly not vote so as to make sure no one can pull her ballot. For the obvious reason. We have barely survived eight years of one Village Idiot as she called George W Bush. We will not surivive even one year of another one.

10. SONG & LIGHTS
She's warming up the vocal chords and they're assigning someone to turn out the lights. Thank goodness Obama didn't try to discredit McCain's POW record during this campaign. Very smart.

13. cut off your allowance
Edited on Sat Oct-11-08 03:00 PM by SemperEadem
Interesting choice of words...

Cut off your allowance just like your dad cut off your son from inheritance because he didn't want his money going to a bastard.

14. Real conservatives know a war hawk when they see one. They don't like war.
And they don't like any of the mess the chimp has made.

I just wish his dad had made more noise during the 2000 election, or at least the 2004.

So, unless they were on the news screaming, none of them are real conservatives.
