Bush Says Democrats Want to Raise Taxes

By SCOTT LINDLAW, Associated Press Writer

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — His voice rising to a shout, President Bush lashed out at Democratic rivals who want to roll back his tax cuts as he defended his economic priorities Monday in a presidential primary state where his record has been harshly criticized.

"There are some in Washington that are going to say, 'Let's not make the tax cuts permanent.' That means he's going to raise your taxes," Bush said at a factory. "When you hear people say, 'We're not going to make this permanent,' that means tax increase."

The Democrats running for president say they would repeal all or portions of Bush's tax cuts, and Bush seemed to step more forcefully into his re-election campaign as he defended his tax policies. Some of the cuts are to expire next year, including those for married couples, and Bush is asking that Congress make them permanent.

1. We need a plan that favors the majority.
We need to turn the tables. What about lowering the 15% bracket to 10% and raising the top bracket by 5%, and adding a new higher one at say 50% at over two million dollars. I wish we had a computer program where we could estimate the revenue impacts of such speculation.

18. My Program: index for inflation and
roll back the clock to 1968.

Any shortfalls in revenue can be made by increasing taxes on the wealthiest 1%.

That'd redistrubte wealth back to where it was when America was a richer nation.

Neil Boortz, read THAT one on the air!

I dare ya!

3. Typical Republican spin
I think most of the proposals only involve raising the taxes on the filthy rich, but if bush screems "Dems want to raise taxes," that's all people will hear.

4. Counter: Bush raises taxes on unborn
Every dollar of deficit increases the taxes on the unborn...

And of course when Bush signed the Tax cuts laws that had expiration dates in them, he was also SIGNING tax increases as well.

6. This will be a big issue
We need to talk about tax fairness and remind voters that Bush's tax cuts have benefited primarily the wealthy and created a massive deficit.

7. This is where bush sees his last refuge
And this is where the Dems need to set it straight from the outset.

A clear plan that can't be twisted by the bastard. There is no room to wiggle here, because a threat of a tax increase on joe citizen is the kiss of death to a candidate anymore.

Bastard will exploit this till kingdom come. He is probing right now, testing ideas, looking for weak spots.

Lower the rate and uncap them. That way we can "lower taxes" while still sticking it to the rich.

34. Yeah, taxes pay for roads, schools, our defense and are a GOOD thing,...
,...so long as they are applied in an economically fair manner. The mantra on taxation has got to change. I like that sign and would simplify it further to read "Civilization requires fair taxation".

and we don't need that." This from the dork who has presided over the largest budget inflation/big govt. regime in history. His own party is up in arms about it.

The neocons are still experts at spreading increased burdens to finance reduced benefits for fewer people, how Republican! But don't forget, once this money is paid...we can go back into our hole of deficit spending. How American!

20. Desperation--reeking desperation
this is what he has to run on--terror wars, which have not been proven to be acceptable to the majority of Americans who loathe the killing, or attack the memes--Democrats raise taxes. He has nothing else to run on. HE must and can only appeal to emotionaly issues, when people, actually could give a shit about it because they are out of a job or because they cannot pay their bills.

Bush has got to go--bye bye Bush and take your big tush pickle with you.

23. Not making the tax CUTS permanent does NOT mean raising taxes.
Don't let them get away with this falsehood. However, in order to pay off the magnificent deficit Bush has created, we will have to increase taxes unless people are finally willing to let go of the bloated corrupt Pentagon budget.

28. "Republicans want more governmental intrusion in your life,
the decisions you make regarding how you live it and the quality they feel government should have a say-so in.

They want more barriers in place between you and decent health care; they want more barriers in place between you and a decent living wage; they want more barriers in place--and folks, those barriers cost money... it costs money for them to intrude in your life the way they want to, so why would they want to instigate a course of action knowing they don't have the funds to pay to its completion? That's a waste of resources--which also happen to be your tax dollars.

That's knowingly going into a losing situation certain of your own failure... Ergo, Republicans are losers who want to tax the hell out of you and rob you of your quality of life and choice you have in how you want to live it..."

as about getting their money worth for the taxes they do pay. They don't want their tax money funneled into the pockets of campaign donors any more than they want it wasted on questionable social programs.
