Ivanov Says Russia May Pull Out of Arms Treaty

Russia may abandon a security treaty limiting conventional weapons and troop deployments in Europe, Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said at an international security conference in Munich on Monday, unless it is changed to rule out NATO forces in the Baltic states.

Ivanov protested that the Conventional Forces in Europe treaty, negotiated in the 1980s between the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the Warsaw Pact, does not include Baltic countries, which are scheduled to become NATO members in April.

Talks between Russia and NATO have broken down in recent years over an updated version of the CFE, which reworked the treaty to take the collapse of the Soviet Union into account.

Seems like we keep marching on to the edge.

2. Try Listening
To a bit from N. Chomsky. He predicts that the result will be for more terror and arms. It was produced in May 2003.

NATO needs to be dismantled and tossed.

Europe needs to form its own military. It's time.

Russia, like many Europeans, are starting to see what NATO really is... a tool for BUSHCO to use at whim. Like Rumsfeld was pushing in Germany last week. Bullshit.

5. Another issue our Dem candidates fail to capture.
Bush, coming into office, set the tone for a new arms race when he (and Condi) pushed for our snubbing the missile treaties in place. All our candidates have to do is go back to the major news events of the first year of the Bush administration to get their campaign issues. The sinking of the Japanese fishing boat during an excursion of Repug contributors, ME snubbing, missile treaty snubbing, preaching no nation-building while planning to tear down and re-build Iraq, preaching the gospel of tax cuts for the wealthy while cutting all government spending except of the military and corporate subsidies, all the environmental treaties snubbed, human rights agreements snubbed, international court snubbing, refusing to hold Israel accountable for UN resolution breeches, just go to the archives...it's all there. But our mainstream candidates seem to focus on only the issues the Repugs put on the agenda thereby allowing them to frame the issues in Bush's favor.
