Discontent JAL workers sabotaging planes

Japan Airlines (JAL) insiders unhappy with wage cuts apparently severed wires on a passenger aircraft in January, officials of the nation's giant flag carrier have told the Mainichi.

After a series of similar incidents beginning in 2000, top JAL officials said insiders were responsible because they were discontent with management's efforts to cut costs.

"A deteriorating morale among employees, coupled with worsening conditions such as wage cuts, are behind the troubles," a top official said on condition of anonymity.

I've had friends in aerospace who have told me that the mechanics and technicians who are getting laid off will sometimes cut the control cables that run the length of the aircraft. The plane can't fly without them and it costs hundreds of thousands to repair.

Sad but true.
