12. I believe Bush beat Kerry here by several votes in 2004...
And that this, Obama winning 15-6, represents an almost complete reversal of the 2004 result. And New Hampshire is supposed to be a state that's friendly to McCain...hmmm...if this trend holds up around the country, we're looking at a landslide for Obama.

13. To add to this, some more about 1968, the last time it went Democratic.
It's a great sign that a normally Republican area went heavily for Obama, the first time a Democrat won it in 40 years.

Yes, it will be mentioned that when Humphrey won it in 1968, he still lost the General Election to Nixon.

However, it must be noted that Humphrey was down by double-digits to Nixon in the latest polls before the 1968 election, so it was very likely he wasn't going to win anyway.

http://www.newsday.com/services/newspaper/printedition/sunday/news/ny-txtprev025908755nov02,0,6652370.story

<snip>
NIXON-HUMPHREY, 1968. During general election campaigning, most polls showed Democrat Hubert Humphrey trailing Republican Richard Nixon by double-digits. Many blue-collar Democrats had thrown their support to American Independent Party candidate George Wallace. But as the election neared, many Wallace supporters shifted to Humphrey and the election ended up closer than expected in key states and overall. Nixon won the popular vote by about 512,000 votes, or one percentage point.
<snip>

It is different this time, not only does the Democrat have a 7 to 12 point lead in national polls, he also won a typically Republican bellweather area of New Hampshire.

Source: New Jersey Herald

Obama wins in earliest vote in Dixville Notch, N.H.

DIXVILLE NOTCH, N.H. -- Democrat Barack Obama came up a big winner in the presidential race in Dixville Notch, N.H., where the nation's first Election Day votes were cast and counted early Tuesday.

Obama defeated John McCain 15-6. Independent Ralph Nader was also on the ballot, but received no votes.

The first voter, following tradition established in 1948, was picked ahead of the midnight voting and the rest of the town's 19 registered voters followed suit in Tuesday's first minutes.

Town Clerk Rick Erwin says the northern New Hampshire town is proud of its tradition, but says the most important thing is that the turnout represents 100 percent vote.

President Bush won the vote in Dixville Notch in 2004 on the way to his re-election.
