Lieberman fears for country if Senate Dems get to 60
Edited on Tue Nov-04-08 07:44 PM by kskiska
Source: The Hill

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) said Tuesday that he fears that America will be hurt if Democrats achieve a 60-seat, filibuster-proof majority in the Senate as a result of the elections.

Lieberman, who was Al Gore’s running mate on the 2000 Democratic ticket and sought the party’s nomination four years later, became an Independent after losing in the 2006 Connecticut primary. He still caucused with Democrats in the 110th Congress and gave his old party a slim majority in the Senate. However, the rift between Lieberman and his colleagues widened when he not only endorsed Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), but also repeatedly slammed Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.).

His remarks Tuesday could further damage his relationship with his former party. The Democratic base is already calling for him to be stripped of his chairmanship. However, it could also be an indication that Lieberman could deny his former party the 60-seats it seeks.

Lieberman was asked on the Glenn Beck radio show whether he agreed with GOP Sen. Orrin Hatch (Utah) that “if we don’t at least have the firewall of the filibuster in the Senate, that in many ways America will not survive.”

“Well, I hope it’s not like that, but I fear,” Lieberman responded.

13. "America will not survive??"
You know what, FUCK YOU ORRIN HATCH! "America will not survive" - kiss my fucking ass. This country did just fine under FDR. It did just fine under Truman. It did just fine under Kennedy. It survived under LBJ. It did OK under Carter (contrary to the Reagan-lickers). It did great under Clinton. So, yes, America will do just fine under President Obama as well.

I don't mind these fuckers moaning about how "Republicanism won't survive under Obama" or "Conservatism will be dead thanks to him" or "our ideology will suffer with a Democratic President." That's the truth. When these piteous turds cry about how the country will go straight down the shitter without their oh-so-experienced and knowledgeable hands at the tiller, frankly you can see why they're losing. They built a fantasy of "Republicans = America" whereby only they belong here; only they have "values"; only they have a clue, and yet reality has disproven them. Now they're seeing the results.

"America will not survive" - once again, I piss on you, Senator Hatch.

47. 5 ISSUES THAT NEED TO BE PASSED BY MARCH 1, 2009:
1. THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE:

The only way that the illicit republican party will maintain any hope of a comeback through criminal means is by their nazi radio stations. We need to ensure that we institute the Fairness Doctrine that does three things:

1. Establish that all opinion shows MUST have another show that provides balance. If Rush is on for three hours, than that station has to play a Democrat or Progressive for 3 hours.
2. If a station does not follow that edict, their license gets taken away.
3. We MUST extend the doctrine to cover XM radio as well as all network stations on TV.

The new Fairness Doctrine will essentially ban Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Mike Savage from the airwaves unless the radio stations wish to bankrupt themselves, much like the oil/coal companies (Section 3 below).

2. JUSTIFY THE TAX CODE

We need to trigger a SIZABLE and PERMANENT tax rate on the top 5 percent of people, preferable to the Kennedy years of around 70%, but for now settle for 50%. That is doable for the 2010 tax year, even earlier if we can make it retroactive. In addition, we need to put out an IMMEDIATE corporate increase of at LEAST 35% across the board to pay for many of the societal items we need. This will ensure those who are poor can be given their stimulus checks, paid for by the rapacious republican elite.

3. SIGN THE KYOTO TREATY

There needs to be MUCH more than just the treaty requirements by the US, but we need to immediately sign it so we can justify our commitment to the world that we want to work with them, not against them. By the time the Obama presidency is over, we should be in absolute, full compliance with NEW LEVELS of CORPORATE RESTRICTIONS that will help us SAVE the planet!

4. GET OUR TROOPS OUT OF IRAQ....NOW!!

'Nuff said. We need to immediately get them out. ANY actions that happen against our country is 100% responsible caused by the criminal republican party, and we need to ensure that such actions don't happen on our watch. I am afraid, though, that the damage has been done, and we may see significant attacks done against the US, which AGAIN, were caused BY THE rEPUBLICANS, NOT the Democrats! At that time, Obama will show how a REAL world leader acts!

5. CREATE RULES OF ORDER IN CONGRESS TO NEGATE rEPUBLICAN INFLUENCE

We need to ensure that committee rules negate the amount of influence all remaining republicans have in congress from effecting any legislative action of Obama, Reid, and Pelosi. In particular, if we have a filibuster-proof senate, that ALSO includes little-known perks that can allow the majority party to highly stifle ANY legal involvement by the minority party. In addition, we need to ensure that we establish an incumbancy advantage in the next election, so we can make even MORE gains.

Obama will be the GREATEST CITIZEN in US HISTORY by the end of his tenure! And he will have performed the GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT in the HISTORY OF THE WORLD...the DESTRUCTION of the rEPBUBLICAN PARTY!

65. “if we don’t at least have the firewall of the filibuster in the Senate"
And to think those asshats were looking to end the filibuster just a few years ago.

My, oh my.

71. So let me get this straight - the self proclaimed "democrat" is warning against him?
If Reid doesn't strip his ass of everything but a sackcloth TOMORROW, I'm gonna be one might pissed constituent...

He's NOT a democrat.
We don't need him to keep control any longer.
Kick his ass OUT!!!

75. It's one of the reasons I would never have voted for Gore again
that level of bad judgement, or plain lack of caring -whichever it was- is just too much for me.

The real question will be whether Reid will continue to pander to Lieberman. I believe the answer is obvious: he will, because Reid doesn't give a damn about the impact of Lieberman's DINO politics on the rest of us. You heard it here first.

77. This pic says it all

I think Al Gore chose the Cuckoo Chick to create a "centrist" ticket. He wanted to be the consensus candidate, just like Bill Clinton did before him.

Ah well, everyone makes mistakes once in a wile. The question is whether you learn from them or not. Al Gore chose to change the world in another way.

I hope President Obama will take a page or two from "The Assault on Reason" and push through some necessary reforms.

78. Where is that pic of Obama backing Lieberman into a corner
on the Senate floor that was taken a year or so ago? I wish I could find it to insert it here because that is what Lieberman really fears. Obama has your number.
