A family spokesman says the Nevada campaign director for Barack Obama's campaign and a former top aide to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has died at 44.

Family spokesman Basil Smikle said Monday that Terence Tolbert died of a heart attack Sunday in Las Vegas. Tolbert was on leave from his job as the chief lobbyist for New York City's public schools at the state capital in Albany to work for the Democratic presidential nominee.

Bloomberg, who has switched his registration from Democratic to Republican to independent, called Tolbert one of the most hardworking people in the world and also one of the most likable.

7. The effort in Nevada was INCREDIBLE, so many people worked so hard

Thousands of people from the Bay Area have come up on weekends and in the final rush to help. The campaign had so much help and they used it to blanket the Reno area with voter protection people, vote counters at the polls (checking turnout), canvassers and election day canvassers to nag people to vote (which they did).

I'm so glad to have come up from the Bay Area to do this with my fellow Nevada Democrats, who were so gracious to us.

We had a wonderful victory party at the Grand Sierra Casino (formerly Harrahs, Ballys, etc.). It was jam-packed and wonderful.

Never in my life seen a campaign like this or a candidate. And this turnout elected a lot of other Democrats too.
