NC called for Obama.
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 01:35 PM by onehandle
Source: CNN

Just on CNN.

On edit, they called it, but I am not finding a link and my hour is about up.

What gives?

I do see about a 12,000 vote advantage for Obama.

No link yet.

21. Link to NC Board of Elections website
http://results.enr.clarityelections.com/NC/7937/13326/en/summary.html

100 of 100 Counties Reporting

Obama/Biden (DEM) 49.70% 2,123,332
McCain/Palin (REP) 49.38% 2,109,586
Barr/Root (LIB) 0.59% 25,418
WRITE-IN 0.33% 14,195
TOTAL 4,272,531

Very small margin of victory, but it looks like we won! The provisional votes are yet to be counted, which will happen by November 14. Provisional ballots generally favor Dems.

There was some sort of technical reporting issue last night with Buncombe County results. Buncombe is home to Asheville, one of the most progressive cities in the state. We were slightly ahead at that point with only provisional ballots and Democratic leaning counties yet to report, however the networks were reluctant to call it. There was even an unofficial vote count for Buncombe County on their website showing that we had won that county, but the numbers weren't included in the state counts. Those of us watching the local returns knew that we had it in the bag some time in the wee hours of the morning.

25. Proud NC Democrat!
New member here. I live in WNC in the Highlands area. My family moved to this Macon Co. mountain town after the Civil War and have been prominent in the community since. Most were Democrats, many served in local governments as mayors, county commissioners, town board members, etc. Even though, my father hardly mentioned a black person without using the "n" word. As much as I love my late father, I've fought to suppress those feelings my entire life because of my father's example. I teach my children to accept people for who they are and not judge them by the color of their skin. Today, I've been looking most of the day on TV and the web for information when NC might call and have come up empty. The election was decided last night at 11 pm, but for me, it's not over until NC calls for Obama. I feel confident we will turn blue and I'm glad to see CNN is leading the way. I had the privilege to see PE Obama with 28,000 other fine folks in Asheville, NC. My only regret is that my wife and children couldn't make the trip. It will forever be an indelible memory, an almost surreal experience that connects me to this wonderful moment in time. I never dreamed NC would flip this year and I want to thank all those who worked so hard to make it happen. I couldn't be prouder of the great state I love!

37. Hi! Welcome to DU!!!
Mighty glad you're here! We've been through some kinda angst around here for approximately eight years now, so the feelings now are all fresh and new and different - and HAPPY!!! We, too, have been fighting and working and pushing and laboring and trying to stay strong and to keep the faith. It's finally paid off in an historically big way!

Thank you for your efforts and solidarity! We ALL win under such circumstances.

Now get back to work! We have a whole country to turn around now.

28. North Carolina Democrat
I voted absentee ballot for Guilford County which is Greensboro, NC. I mailed it from Washington, DC because I am attending Gallaudet University. By the way, Gallaudet University was very pro-Obama and it was amazing party on the campus.

30. I don't understand why it took so long to call it for Obama...
Missouri went to McCain with less than a 6,000 vote lead.

Have they counted all the provisionals that were going to be included? What about the military votes?
I'm not complaining; but I really do think every vote needs to be counted, regardless of who it's cast for.

31. These are still unofficial results. But IIRC military votes absentee & the
absentee ballots and other early vote ballots are sent to the appropriate precincts for tabulation with the regular election day results

NC has several weeks of early voting. It is possible to register at the early voting sites -- so in early voting, there are no provisional ballots

I don't know about the rest of NC, but in my county we had weeks and weeks with hundreds of volunteers registering voters and educating them about early voting. There are about 178K registered voters, and over 122K of them voted early. It rained all day election day, and only about 33K voted that day. Thus about 136K ballots were cast -- none provisional

You can get detailed info here, I think: http://results.enr.clarityelections.com/NC/7937/13326/en/reports.html

NC was crucial in the primary for their big win they gave Obama there and the victory in the Pres. race is going to allow us to say there is a new paradigm and this proves it.
