Six French aid workers kidnapped in Somalia

Four aid workers and two pilots working for the French aid group Action Against Hunger were abducted Wednesday in the central Somali town of Dhusa Mareb, the organization said.

The group was traveling in a convoy to the airport in order to return to Nairobi, Kenya, when they were attacked, it said in a news release posted on its Web site.

"The attackers took away in a car the four Action Against Hunger employees and the two Kenyan pilots of the plane chartered by the European Commission," it said.

The group did not identify the nationalities of the four employees, only saying that they were non-Somalis ...

UNITED NATIONS, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon of the United Nations condemned "mostly strongly" the kidnapping of four aid workers and two pilots in Somalia earlier in the day, demanding their immediate release.

"The secretary-general most strongly condemns the abduction of four aid workers and two pilots from an airstrip near the town of Dhusamareb in Somalia today," Ban's spokeswoman, Michele Montas, said.

She said the UN chief is "deeply concerned" about the worsening trend of killings and abductions of aid workers in Somalia ...
