Lima - Peru has invited US president-elect Barack Obama to the 16th meeting of APEC heads of state in Lima this month, Peruvian Foreign Minister Jose Antonio Garcia Belaunde said Thursday. "The invitation is there and we are awaiting a reply. We do not know if he can come over in the current circumstances," Garcia Belaunde said.

The 16th annual summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum will be held in Lima from November 21-23.

Garcia Belaunde said Peru would also like to host Obama at some point during his presidency. He said an invitation was extended in a letter from Peruvian President Alan Garcia to the US president-elect on Wednesday, which congratulated him on his election victory.

US President George W Bush confirmed his attendance at the APEC summit. Several Peruvian political activists were planning to protest against his visit.

Do you think he would ask Barack Obama to dance along with him?
Clearly, he's doing a hell of a job on his own.

1. Sounds like a good time for Gov. Bill Richardson to become
Ambassador Richardson again.

4. Just let George go this one last time!!
I want to see them protest against him. It would be better for Obama to remain in the U.S. until he is sworn in. There will be special precautions taken for him to travel abroad once he is officially the President.
