(Texas Longhorns Football Player Buck) Burnette ousted because of (Obama) comments on Facebook
Source: statesman

Backup center Buck Burnette was kicked off the Longhorns Wednesday because of comments he made on Facebook, a person close to the team has confirmed.

According to those who saw the Facebook page, Burnette updated his status shortly after Barack Obama was elected president Tuesday night and wrote that hunters should get their guns. One of the people who claimed to have seen Burnette’s original post said it also included a racial slur. Others saw what Burnette wrote and posted comments on other sites, encouraging their friends to shut down his page.

Burnette’s page has since been deleted from Facebook.

However, screen grabs show that he had updated his status to an apology. Burnette wrote: “Clearly I was in the wrong for what I did and I apologize for being a sore loser.”

He offered another apology. It said: “Clearly I have made a mistake and apologized for it and will pay for it. I received it as a text message from an acquaintance and immaturely put it up on facebook in the light of the election. Im not racist and apologize for offending you. I grew up on a ranch in a small town where that was a real thing and I need to grow up. I sincerely am sorry for being ignorant in thinking that it would be ok to write that publicly and apologize to you in particular. I have to be more mature than to put the reputation of my team at stake and to spread that kind of hate which I dont even believe in. Once again, I sincerely apologize.”

when someone gets caught with their pants down and their face red they all of a sudden remember what they are doing is wrong and say sorry isn't it?

3. I don't know if he REALLY is sorry, but THAT is an ACTUAL apology...
“Clearly I have made a mistake and apologized for it and will pay for it. I received it as a text message from an acquaintance and immaturely put it up on facebook in the light of the election. Im not racist and apologize for offending you. I grew up on a ranch in a small town where that was a real thing and I need to grow up. I have to be more mature than to put the reputation of my team at stake and to spread that kind of hate which I dont even believe in. Once again, I sincerely apologize.”

Compare to the standard Republican boilerplate Non-Apology:

"I apologize for my choice of words and if anybody was offended by them."

Whether he means it or not, it's actually written as a real apology.

Good on him for THAT much, anyway.

Not that I think he should be let off the hook.

apologies.

And I think the coach made the right call.

16. Yes, an apology, and its acceptance, has nothing to do with his nonstatus on the team.
But I think that he has seriously started to rehabilitate himself as a person.

12. Yes, that sounded like a real apology to me, too
And it sounds like the proper corrective was applied. I should hope that the young man is told to go his way and sin no more.

7. UT grad and rabid Longhorn fan here
Also, rabid progressive and proud Democratic voter, and a native Austinite. I'm glad coach Brown made the right decision about this. Intolerance should never be...well...tolerated! On a diverse sports team, there is no room for this kind of talk. Wonder how his fellow players feel about it?

I know Austin is a blue oasis in a sea of red. But there are still pockets of intolerance there. Trust me.

Peace, and Hook 'em!

25. I agree about Austin.
Austin is a great place for liberals and radicals
like myself, but it also has a strong racist
population.

It's nice to see the Longhorn coach do the right thing.
That's a step in the right direction.

Also, should he decide to transfer to a new school where he

or else you wouldn't put such a stupid unnecessary slur against OU up on a political message board.

Just compare the 60's and 70's team lineups for a start.

He also mustn't have a clue who the President of our University is. Former Democratic Senator David Boren wouldn't tolerate that. Period.

There's lots of stuff to get on Oklahoma about (this election is one of many)...our University, and the way Stoops handles the behavior of our football team nowadays is absolutely not one of those things.

30. Texas A&M will take him
I bet that this player would still be playing at A&M. Racism is O.K. at A&M as long as it is against a Democrat. In my opinion this is why A&M can't seem to quite make it to the next level in sports. A&M does not have enough political diversity for a big time University. Mack Brown is very smart to get rid of this loser.
By the way, I received my B.S. at Texas A&M.

with open arms. I can't stand the Longhorns but I have utmost respect for Mack Brown for doing this.
And Mr. Burnette just might be getting a visit from the Secret Service in the next day or two. Invoking the assassination of a President or President-elect is a Federal Crime. His "apology" was total BULLSHIT !

I am an Aggie but not very proud to be one lately.
