Chinese hack into White House network
Source: FT

Chinese hackers have penetrated the White House computer network on multiple occasions, and obtained e-mails between government officials, a senior US official told the FT.

The cyber attackers managed to penetrate the White House system for brief periods that allowed them to steal information before US government experts each time patched the system.

US government cyber experts suspect the attacks were sponsored by the Chinese government, although they cannot say for definite.

“We are getting very targeted Chinese attacks so its stretches credulity that these are not directed by government-related organisations,” said the official.

...

A second US official said government cyber experts had determined that the attacks originated from China, but he cautioned that they could not determine whether they were related to the government.

that the chinese are looking over Obama's shoulder during his administration. They would say that he has to get their 'approval'.

7. It would be much more worrying if they hacked in to the RNC mail server
As it's been well established that the current stooges don't use their official e-mail anyway.

Maybe the Chinese could provide some of the "lost" mails from the White house mail server?

FFS, securing a network is an ongoing holistic process, not some linear thing. It takes someone who gives a crusty fuck and possesses a clue to be on the case at all times. Shit, the number of good tools out there, like Nagios, make such things a lot easier than they have ever been before.

Being an IT weenie and out of work, and reading something like this, makes my teeth itch.

Can I get a "Hell Yeah!" frrom other out-of-work tech dogs?

I would not want to be the person in charge of WH computer security. Cheney is so paranoid everything must be a secret. And now his Commie opponents in the GREAT OIL GAME have hacked HIS system. Oh, I'll bet there has been hell to pay.

It's just not a full blown war just alot of sniping.

In the mid 50s, a very popular show called 'Winky Dink' was on, the gimmick of which was that you drew stuff on the screen ( using a 'winky dink' kit you bought - corporate shits, it was just some saran wrap or something and a 'decoder') like bridges or hot air ballons or whatever to save Winky Dink from whatever. Most of us at 5 and 6 were constantly drawing on the TV set, without, of course, the kit. Makes sense. Someone should have told Bush that Winky Dink was cancelled. Also explains Bush's attitude toward infrastructure. ( "Oh my God, New Orleans is flooding. I better draw a levee for Winky Dink.")

40. Damn I remember Winky Dink.
I still remember the time Mom wasn't home and my sister hid my Winky Dink kit and told me it was OK to draw on the TV tube. When Mom came home, I got the whippin of my life as my sister kept giggling...

And if they did, did he understand what they were telling him? In other words, "what didn't he know and when did he not know it?"

And, does this mean that whenever Putin showed up over Alaska that he was just giving us a head fake?

33. It is easier then is sounds for those who are extremely good at hacking
and do not mind going to prison if discovered. To some hackers it is a life time challenge to get into a government network. There are some really strange customers in the world today.
