Republican Party to challenge campaign money laws in Supreme Court
Source: A/P

WASHINGTON - The national Republican Party wants to make it easier to raise and spend political money.

Party officials say they plan to sue the Federal Election Commission to alter a six-year-old law written by John McCain, the defeated Republican presidential candidate. Republican National Committee Chairman Robert Duncan says he wants the courts to eliminate restrictions on co-ordinated spending by national parties and federal candidates.

He also wants the law changed to permit the national organizations to raise money for state parties.

Duncan said he plans to file suits Thursday in federal courts in Washington D.C. and in Louisiana.

Democratic, though.) Each letter asked for a donation of $2,000 about halfway through. Yeah, they start with the highest amount and worked their way down to $100, IIRC. Compare that with the campaign Obama et al ran asking for even $5 to help. The letters really shocked me when I got to the $$$ request.

On edit: My dad is a retiree. He's never given more than a couple of bucks, if that much, to any candidate. This was a standard letter sent to anyone on their list asking for the max, no matter if they are working or retired.

Legislating from the bench?

"He also wants the law changed to permit..."

Hey Mr Congressman, introduce the law and pass it.

10. Good observation.
It's kind of like how in the early 90's the Repugs were clamoring for term limits, but only until they got the majority in Congress!

7. We need big, corporate money, and the only way we can do it is to challenge the law.
We don't care about the people... we only care about the deep pockets. We're the republican party... our goal is to control the people using the corporate interests. Corporate welfare, and corporate contributions...
